Guys,

I am sadly due for a fair amount of short hospital stays next year. And I need some help regarding a data allowance.

I am getting a 3G iPad when they are refreshed in September.

My current virgin mobile sim offers me unlimited data, but the amount of talktime I have far exceeds what I use, so although a new phone may cost a bit more, I will be looking to cut the tariff down. But this will stop the unlimited data.

I will not need data all the time, so basically what I'm looking for is a sim that will allow me to have unlimited data when I want it for a reasonable daily rate. I don't mind paying a few quid say a fiver a month for a basic data sim, but I would like to be able to smash it at times without it costing the earth.

Any ideas please?
 
GiffGaff? Although the unlimited data goodybags does not allow tethering.

Alternatively, get the iPad it's own SIM. You can get data SIM cards for dongles/tablets that does not have minutes/texts, just pure data.

Not sure if there's any other companies that does data only SIMs, but this should be pefect for tablet use.
 
I tether with giffgaff. Use around 8-9 gig and month most month but only a few gigs this month. Your not allowed but oh well

You don't get that much allowance with giffgaff data only, not sure what other networks are like. Just make sure you get everything downloaded before you get the data only sim
 
If I was to get a basic data sim for a fiver a month on a 30 day contract, would that allow me to easily change it to a higher one for one month, then revert back to the basic one?
