My budget is around £450 for a decent pc that can that can easily support a high end music production software. Any suggestions? Thanks! Built or having to custom build is fine. I know what specs I am looking for a little bit.

fast-ish cpu, lots of ram, external soundcard. you don't need everything else to be 'good'.

e: i have a focusrite saffire pro 20, which cost more than your music pc :p

Being an audio engineer, this is right up my street. Honestly, if it's just to run some software like Ableton, you don't need much. Good CPU (I have a 3570K), decent mobo, decent RAM and fast-ish hard drives.

If you're into recording audio, most of your budget should go towards that. Mind you, these days you can get solid interfaces for very little!

I run it on an imac i5 4gb or my windows overclocked i5 8gb. on the windows machine I run it with Traktor running as well. Never had any issues.

There are different options but if it were me and you was going to connect a midi controller/synth then i would recommend a dedicated sound card with decent ASIO drivers, i use the creative sound blaster z oem basic no frills model, you would also want to use the analogue cable that comes with the sound card, this helps greatly at reducing latency, there is nothing worse than hitting/striking the midi/synth key and have the sound lag a second or two later, it is very frustrating.

Sorry, not the OP but just gonna jump in here while I can.

Would external sounds card work as well to reduce latency? I ask because the case I'm looking to build into is mini itx form factor that has no space for another expansion slot once I add in the graphics card. I'm looking to use the Kawai Vpc 1 as the controller.
