Hi Guys,

I just brought the following

Asus P5QL-EM
Hiper 580W PSU
Q6600
Kingston DDR2

When i press the power button to boot my system it takes a sec or 2 to kick in and when i press the reset button it takes 3 seconds to restart and 3 seconds to kick back in to life. I have tried connecting the monitor into the DVI and VGA port on the motherboard and i have nothing showing just a blank screen and amber light.

I have brought down my system to its base to help with this issue so i only have the motherboard, PSU and CPU in my system installed. I have no other cables connected apart from the case power button cable.

Can someone please help!

Thanks,

So its not booting? Is that the problem? The first thing I'd check is that you have all the power cables connected to the mobo - both the main one (24pin) and the CPU one (8pin). Maybe thats too obvious but its the mistake I made recently on my first build.

Both cables are connected, i have the 4 pin ATX and a 20 pin with a 4 pin which are both joined to each other connected to the 24 pin socket. I have also just tried an old dell 200w psu which has a full 24 pin and a 4 pin ATX connection.

I do understand that the 200w would not power it if was on full load.

I'm not sure what the problem is but I would check the following as well:

1. Does the monitor work :-)
2. If you have more than one ram module try booting with one at a time to see if any are faulty.

Other than that i have no clue - maybe a mobo fault?

Take mobo out of case and see if it powers up.

Could be a short in there if you've changed the mobo.

Also what cooler are you using? I've seen some fittings cause issues.

still no good, it still powers up but nothing on the screen and reset still takes a while. I have a Silverstone NT06-E Cooler.

Strip down further!
Take mobo completely out of case and place flat on top of wood blocks.
Start plugging components in 1 by 1 and boot. Note any error beeps and/or light sequences from mobo.
Continue until you hit the problem or alternatively until that puppy boots as it should.
Post back ya findings.......
