Can anyone help me with my noob question? :p

I have 2 xp home comps connected to a router and am trying to set up file/folder sharing between the two. I have run the network setup wizard on both but whilst one comp can open the shared documents folder on the other. The reverse is not possible. When attempted the error is as follows:

"\\comp2\shareddocs is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.

Not enough server storage is available to process this command."

Any ideas what my problem is?

Neither comp has third party firewall software installed and the windows firewalls are both switched off. I'm relying on the hardware firewall provided by my router for external security, which shouldn't interfere with LAN traffic.

Thanks anyway.

i had a similar issue and was posted these instruction and they worked a treat
you can do this a number of ways:you can share files easily between pcs by right clicking the file you want to share clicking on shareing and security and then ticking the 2 boxs labeled share this file and let others edit files or something like that.

the best way i think is to do the following:

1. Go to control panel
2. Network Setup Wizard and follow the on screen instructions
3. insure that you name the network WORKGROUP on all pc's. This can be anything you like as long as its the same on all pc's.
4. Create a folder on each pc named PC 1 Shares, PC 2 Shares, PC 3 shares, these can be named anything you like.
5. Right click each file and share them by doing what i said above ensuring you tick both box's to enable users to edit and access files.
6. Once you have done this open up My Computer
7. Go to tools and Map Network Drive
8. Expand My network Places
9. Expand Entire Network
10. Expand Microsoft Windows Network
11. Expand WORKGROUP or whatever you have called it
12. You should see all your pcs in here
13. Expand each individual one
14. If your on PC 1 select PC 2's shared folder that you created earlier.
15. Click ok and then finish.

You will now see a new drive in My computer this is a shared folder on your other pcs this lets you use and tansfer files between pcs.

You need to do this on all pcs.

on xp home make an account on each pc and call it the same username / password. This is called password synchronization.

Then make a share on each pc and make sure you have enabled that user to access that share.

good luck.

When I follow the above instructions it tries to access the share folder I specify but fails and says it cannot setup the network drive because there is not enough server space. Server space? What can this mean?

Again, the network drive mapping has worked in one direction, but not the other. So my older comp can see files on the newer comp, but not the other way round. Not all that useful as the old comp has all the files I could do with sharing!

Thanks for taking the time to give me help!

How do I change access permissions for individual users? As far as I can see the user accounts can only be switched between two settings, administrator or limited (and I only use administrator accounts of course)

BTW Thanks for your help!

The clue's in the error message:

Not enough server storage is available to process this command."

Is there enough disk space on the machine you're trying to connect to?
Can the machine (that can't access anything) access a different folder on the other machine?

There's plenty of hard drive space on both machines, that's what's so confusing about the error message! I've tried enabling sharing of different folders and trying to access them from the other comp, and whilst they then appear as shared, trying to open them results in the same complaint.

Thanks for your help!

PROBLEM SOLVED!

All is now resolved and working fine. I decided to google my error message and found this to be a common glitch if you've been unfortunate enough to have previous run-ins with Norton Antivirus (got rid of it years ago but it haunts me to this day :p ).

For those interested or with the same problem, the solution is a registry change as described here:

not enough server space

Thanks a lot to all those who took the time to try and help me out, your efforts were very much appreciated!
