Hey guys,

Ive been trying to RAID0 two 80Gb Hitachi's for a long time now with no luck on my MSi 975X. So basically all Im asking for is exact word for word instructions on how to do it.

Basically what ive done is downloadthe intel drivers, put them on the floppy, set the BIOS up for RAID, Held CTRL + I to get the menu up and raid 0 the two drives, I press F6 during install and I load the driver, it then finds the drive and it copies the files from the cd, the pc then reboots and says it cant find the drive so whats going on?

Thanks for any help,

RoachycaL

I thought that was what I said - leave it in until the PC reboots. I think Roachy is taking it out too soon so it's only being used to get the installation started but the drivers don't actually get copied across. I know I've done this myself but it was probably back in the NT4 days.

If you take the disk out too soon the install specifically asks for the disk with the RAID drivers back by name. NT was a real pain because it just asked for a disk and didn't tell you whether it was the RAID disk or the next of the boot disks and if you gave it the boot disk it just carried on regardless.

EDIT: Probably me just misunderstanding your post, to me "until it reboots" means "until the PC has shutdown and restarted again"

I guess im confusing people, I dont think its anything to do with the floppy disk because I take it out when it tells me to. It starts going wrong once its copied the files from the cd, it reboots and it should begin installing xp where I fill in my cd key etc. but instead it says it cant find the boot drive. Someone refered to what does "it" mean, I meant the windows xp install.

Hope this helps, I really want to get these drives in raid0 but I dont see whats the problem?

Sounds like a boot order issue, ideally what you want is the CD drive first followed by the RAID array. That way you stick the XP CD in and fire up the machine, it boots off the CD (you may have to hit a key at the "boot from cd" prompt), it then does the text mode install and copies all the files. At the point where it first reboots it asks you to remove all CDs & floppies so when the machine reboots it should boot off the RAID array into the graphical part of the setup.

If the RAID array isn't in the right place in the boot order menu in the BIOS then the machine will try and boot off the next device in the list, if it can't find a bootable device then you'll get an error like you're seeing.

There isnt a choice in the different pieces of hardware to choose anything to do with raid, but Im not even getting to that stage now as Im getting a BSOD once ive loaded the drivers from the floppy now from following your instructions :(
