I will proberly buy it all tonight from OC but need your help

People have been saying to me that you cant get more than 2GB ram on XP, but im sticking with XP

I dont want to buy what people suggest and then it wont work..

What do you suggest?

Thanks

Sorry for Re-Post

Ok, thanks would you mind finding me the links on OC.. and Ill just get a few more opinions before I buy anything

Thanks

RAM is Random Access Memory.
Generally the more you have the faster your PC will run.
There is a saturation point on this of course where the amount of RAM you have will make no difference to the performance of your PC.
This is normally considered to be 2GB in XP and 4GB in Vista for 95% of users.
Some will need more, particularly people involved in heavy graphics and encoding activities.
The reason people are recommending 4GB (2x2GB) is because DDR2 RAM is so dam cheap at the moment and it makes sense to buy the 4GB which for XP is overkill.
Your immediate problem and the reason your PC is running like a Dog is because your C Drive is totally choked. Operating Systems need about 10% space on a HDD to run properly.
I suggest you go to Control Panel/add,remove programmes and remove some ***p from your HDD. This will be stuff that is used rarely or never.
It will tell you this in the add/remove programmes window.
Is that the complete HDD or do you have other partitions to move stuff onto ie /D drive?

Ok thanks

Well im going to buy more hard drive, 320GB i think..

But will

4GB (2x2GB)

be okay for my pc?

I stand by you should get the 4 gig of RAM, whilst you wont be able to use all of it you will be able to use about 3.5 gig which is healthily more than 2, also its 800Mhz which should be a nice speed boost for you too, and its matched which is important. With the new drive you can either do a fresh install of the new drive and use this as your main HDD, this is prob best as I suspect your existing one is prob 5600rpm, the new one is 7200 so you'll notice a speed upgrade there, you can then copy your old files across from old drive to new drive so you dont lose anything. Your other option (not recomended) is to keep your existing drive as your O/S drive, delete everything else off it, and use the new drive as your storage drive, but as I say I strongly suspect your old drive is only 5600rpm so you'll be better off just binning it tbh

Ill prob do your 1st option, and I will Re-Format my pc before I install my new Ram and HD

Thanks

what sort of stuff do you have on there, if you've loaded the os onto the new drive then clear any rubbish off the old drive first, then copy anything across to the new drive.

programs etc will be better getting installed on the new drive, if thats where u're os is.

im going to get Vista 64.. then ill have all my 4GB

I have just installed vista

but I want my computer to run from my new HD, but it aint
