i bet with 622mb of HD space u`ve never run Defragger on ya system aswell ??

besides space for a page file @ least 1-2 gig ....

u need @ least 15% of availble HD space to run a defragger properly which needs to be done on a regular basis ...

this keeps all ya important files grouped together on the HD an makes it easier for the HD to get em IE: faster ..

suggest removing any unwanted programs or backing up any mp3 , pics , movies an stuff to a CD/DVD while u do this ..

run a defragger an see how ya HD behaves then ;)

running a defrag will not free up mass amounts of space, its a 40Gig drive.!

There are couple of things, your motherboard will probably support 4GB of RAM but there is a maximum, might be worth looking this up.
The next issue is that 32bit OS cant address 4GB of RAM, cant remember how much it will leave you with, 3.7 I think.

Just ordered

Corsair 4GB DDR2 XMS2 PC2-6400C5 TwinX (2x2GB) 1 £37.99
Samsung SpinPoint F1 320GB SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (HD322HJ)

Hopefully it will come tomorrow

Thanks for the help guys

(y)

depending on VGA card memory it`ll either be 3.25 or 3.5 gig of the 4 gig on a 32bit os .

cool

well it should be at home.

Im going to reformat before I install my new ram and HD

should I save everything to my new HD?

you could just disconnect the current drive from the system, install on the new one, then copy the information over.

installed the ram and harddrive today. only 3GB of the ram is showing up

Im still using my old hard drive, that ok?

any settings I should be aware of? (tweaks?)

Is it best that I save everything to my new Hardrive? if so, how?

Thanks

i noticed your using two different types of ram. that would be slowing your comp down considerably. im running 2 gb of crucial and my xp pro sp3 is fine. i take it youve defragged etc?

what sort of stuff do you have on there, if you've loaded the os onto the new drive then clear any rubbish off the old drive first, then copy anything across to the new drive.

programs etc will be better getting installed on the new drive, if thats where u're os is.
