ok a little background:(

I recently bought some 2x512mb Geil ultra-x tccd pc4400 from a forum and when it arrived....well, it didnt work. I can boot with the sticks, but i'll be lucky if i get to windows before they bsod on me. i tried every timing, voltage,....everything i could think of, i also set default timings before i removed my old ram and then cleared the bios before putting the ultra-x in. Didnt work. i ran memtest and it showed errors on both sticks. To make sure it wasnt just my pc, i tried them on a friends pc and...same results. Gf's pc...same results.

So, these sticks had to be RMA'd (they are only 6 months old). The seller and i both agreed i would be easier for him to deal with the rma and get the sticks sent back to me, since i still wanted a working pair of pc4400's. He dealt with it, telling them that the dont work in more than one pc and we'd like a new set please:) I sent them back and today i got the sticks back in the post with a note telling me there's nothing wrong with them, and that i've (well, the seller) been charged £10 for the privilege

I'm not a happy bunny. So anyway i try them again thinking 'well maybe i am just an idiot' and they BSOD on the stock timings before i get into windows. What exactly did they test the ram for? that it posts and nothing more?

I'll tell you this, im fed up with that company now. they've lost a customer once i've sorted this out.

Ayway guys, what are my options now? im stuck with £80's worth of ram that doesnt work.

i actually already sent an RMA request to geil before the ram was sent to the retailer. As of today, 13 days later, i still havent even recieved the RMA number from Geil

See my message here

I won't be buying Geil again. OcUK have told me that Geil only need to tell them that I can have another stick so it's not like a replacement has to be sent. Pretty crap service from Geil it seems.

James; I've sent a message to OcUK suggesting that they may want to ask Geil what is going on.

I've waited a month, 13 days for yourself and a few days for the other guy.

Didn't OcUK used to have a policy on companies that took their time with RMA requests?

thank you Charlie Bravo. i'm in a bit of a rut here. obviously the seller isnt going to be pleased when he finds out his been charged, which is another issue i have to sort out

Miller man, mail me with some details please - like what you have done etc exactly and who sent back what etc. I'll have a look into it :).

ok, this is really starting to get to me now. I had every intention of running memtest86, taking a photo of the results and sending them off with a second, angrily worded RMA request but hey - the ram is passing memtest @270mhz without so much as a sniffle.

It did that, to my utter astonishment. I then booted into windows and got a blue screen. put the old ram in - no problems. here's a new devolopment though - it fails a dos-bassed prime cpu tester almost the instant its started with the new ram. with the old stuf, it'll run for hours.

Please guys, what the hell is going on with this ram :(

My Geil RAM passed memtest as well. I left it running overnight but it still locked windows within minutes of booting.

I still haven't had a new stick by the way. Might ring OcUK in a min.

Update: OcUK have now got a credit from Geil, so I'm getting a new stick posted tonight.

Maybe you could kindly ask OcUK if they have a better contact for Geil?

Hmm...odd. Were all the computers it was tested in AMD's? Have you tried the sticks in an Intel machine - perhaps this is some sort of memory controller issue with that RAM? I'll have to think some more on this.

yeah all 3 are amd. My opteron 148, a 3200 venice and a 3000 winchester. all giving me the same errors  i just dont know what to try now. I dont have access to an intel machine right now
