I need some guidance re: FSB's

Well, tried changing things and the ratio stayed at 1:1. Ho hum.

Incidentally, I got 2300 3dmarks in 3dmark06. Is that good?

E4400 @ 2.7GHz
2GB ballistix at 1:1

is it best to run ram at it's highest Mhz, then FSB at it's highest, then find the closest ratio?

I'll find the highest OC for the CPU first then see if I can reduce multi to increase the FSB, then tweak with the RAM afterwards.

I must say though any RAM speed increase over FSB (e.g. running ratios higher than 1:1) will yeild little performance increase in general since memory performance is severely limited by the FSB on Intel, that is why high fsb oc is preferred. Having said that I still perfer running RAM as fast as possible.

The limiting factor for your overclock will undoubtedly be your motherboard.

It will just not go past 300 or thereabouts no matter what you do. Stick it on 299 FSB and then fiddle around to get the best RAM timings.

Job done!

299 from 200?!
Seems like such a huge jump... is this normal for a not-quite-power-overclocker like me to be trying? :S
I'm on 277 at the mo, and I keep imagining i can hear my CPU screaming  :o

Hah! :p
I went up to 290 and my PC crashed while watching southpark :p
Gone back to 280 now. I imagine I could have upped the voltages to get 290 to work - but I'm happy with 280 :D
Now all I need is a graphics card. Ive put £100 away this month and will add another £100 next month, see what I can get :D

You can get a 8800 320Mb GTS for less than £200 at OcUK, if you wanna spend a bit more you can have the 640Mb version for less than £300 - thats the one I'm gonna buy!

I was a bit intimidated at first too, but i'm sitting at 300fsb and still the cpu hit 62 degrees only at full load under orthos after some time...These C2D's are like nothing the world has ever seen
