I need some help!

I thought that.

I just bought that for my friends new build, nice cooler.

Actually I'd be interested to hear your opinion on what I built for him (obviously his money but me choosing the parts)

Thermaltake Level 10 GT case
Intel i7 3820 Sandy Bridge Quad core 3.6GHZ
Asus GTX 680 2GB
16GB Corsair Vengeance Ram, 1800mhz I think
Corsair Force 128GB SSD
WD Caviar Black 1TB HDD
Corsair 1200 AX Full modular PSU

This was my first proper build, he had a rather large budget (£1500 isn) and I wanted to go a bit overkill with some of the components to make it a bit future proof. So would you say I did well? Haha

That's not a bad rig, but I can't help but feel at 1.5K you'd have been able to push up the GPU performance with say a GTX670 SLI as they were going for 162 quid a pair at Overclockers recently, or a 7950 Crossfire.

I'm doing a 700 quid, and I've managed to get in a 4670K and a GTX670 with a 120GB SSD.

Not a massive fan of the case, but it's certainly a very capable build, he's future proof as he can take an IvyBridge-E hexcore when they're out, or go for a second hand 3930K which have been about ~300 quid previously.

Oh and I forgot his mobo is the Asus Rampage 4.

Well, we are both trying to get into the PC side of gaming (consoles are garbage) and the learning curve is huge, but we are both having fun, and picking up little things such as what you have just said are very valuable to learn.

It's a very nice board that one is.
Don't get me wrong, it's still a very good PC.

Yeah, PC's are definitely quite a curve, I'm glad I got into it when I was younger (Well, 15-16) so about 5 years ago now.

I also had friends that were into PC's at that time, I'm now 22 and trying to get back into it. Its just such a fun interest to have, it almost becomes addictive haha

I spend more of my time running benchmarks and trying to figure out how to get the most power and efficiency without spending a hell of a lot of money.
