So I've got around £50 to get a new bread knife, and a steel/sharpener aswell.

I've got a chef's knife, paring knife and vegetable knife, any others apart from a bread knife that I should have?

Help is appreciated very much! :)

For a bread knife i have found nothing beats serated, or the saw type knives.

50 for one is a bit steep, but you could easily spend that on the sharpener.

I have a Sabatier and it was £20 I think. Its only cutting sodding bread so as long as the blade is nice and heavy it should be alright. :)

I was thinking of spending around £25-£35 for a bread knife, I don't need a global!

Will: I would probably use it for things like tomatoes aswell, I don't see any point in having a bread and a tomato knife when they do the same things practically. I'll take a look at the sabatier!

Ah yeah, well if it is of reasoable quality and the blade is weighty and doesn't bend (read you could bludgeon someone with the blunt end) then it will do everything. :)

Didn't know that the blades should be completely rigid, i've got a few sanelli knives and the blades are completely rigid (though the handles are nice to work with!)

That's the make!

What make is the second one? Porsche 301?

They all look over priced to me except the £18.50 one we had a similar one at work it was alright, a bit bendy though. The bottom one is what you should be after but I wouldn't pay £50 for that when the Sabatier equivilent is £20-30. With a serrated blade in my opinion the quality of stainless in various grades barely makes a difference.

That global you are paying for some marketing NO SWEARING and a fancy handle.

It is down to personal preference I think, I prefer them to be rigid. :)
