I need to block all websites with the word "bingo" in it

Hi all

I need some help urgently.

I need to block every bingo website. I am using WRT54G with tomato firmware 1.25. I can block www.website.com etc but I need a more overall block of the word bingo. As I can not list every site.

Im hoping it can be done via the router and not extra software.

Generally a router cannot do keyword blocking, they dont have the processing power for it.

Your need some type of guardian software. That is mainly developed to stop kids from accessing wrong sites.

You could always lock the machine down at the router and not allow it access at all but to the sites you add to the list...

There might be a browser plugin if you'r using firefox but you would have course then have the problem of the missus using IE for example.

ok lots of options for this

- use opendns as the dns servers and block sites through that
- use safesquid or websense or similiar, basically a proxy with content filtering
- change the default gateway on the pc so she cant access the net (or pull cable out etc)
- use something like foxfilter to content filter in firefox - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/4351

but that only stops her accessing the bingo sites on the net, and she will probably throw a wobly when she sees what youve done

Get the addresses of all the sites you wish to prevent access to from her browsing history. Add them to the hosts file with the address of 127.0.01. Or even sneakier make the ip address 216.239.59.104 (google). She'll probably be baffled and won't have a clue how to circumvent this.

A netgear router does keyword blocking very well, get hold of a cheap sky branded one.

I run WRT54G's running the DD-WRT firmware, they have the keyword blocking option. If the Tomato keyword feature suggested above doesn't work then you coud try DD-WRT.
