I don't know if anyone remembers me saying about the breastfeeding course I was starting a couple of months ago but I got the results a couple of days ago and I passed! :D I really pleased, this means I can now go on and start training as a full breastfeeding counsellor :D It's a 2-3 year course as far as I'm aware. I can now call myself a Mother's Support and start some support groups etc in the area. I can't wait to start the next course :D

It really cheered me up as we've all had really bad flu for the past week and a couple of days. I could barely move the first few days and was in so much pain with the body aches and pains that I couldn't sleep. All the kids had it too as well as Cliff. Poor Morgan has also now got tonsillitis so is on anto biotics, he's lost so much weight as well as he can't eat. :( Looks like we're all on the mend now though thankfully, especially the kids which is great.

congrats, but i hope that you dont become one of those obsessed women who tries to force breast feeding onto new mothers :]

Lol. I wouldn't try to force a woman to breastfeed, the idea is that there is support and practical help in breastfeeding. A lot of women find breastfeeding painful and difficult due to bad positioning etc and that is easily rectified. Studies show that a high percentage of women wished they had breastfed for longer and that lack of support was the main reason they stopped.

Indeed, but our experience has been that when my wife wanted to give up (through pain and jake just not getting enough), she was pressured by 2 different counsellors (1 in hospital before leaving and another who was a support one).
Of course, im not saying that all counsellors are like this, but they are out there :]

Er... what does a breast feeding counsellor do? I mean, it's not rocket science, is it?

Many women have problems with breastfeeding actually, it's surprising but true. I'll learn how to find and solve problems a woman is having with feeding, counselling skills, what medications can be taken whilst breastfeeding among other things. How milk is made and produced, helping prevent blocked ducts, mastitis etc, there are lots to learn.

Well done JodieG.
I wondered where you were there hadn't been any post from you for ages, Its tough when the kids get sick and you, hope that you all continue to get better.

All I want to do is help the women that do want to feed their babies but need the support to carry on. Pain when feeding means something is wrong and if the baby is nipple feeding then it also means the baby won't be taking anywhere near enough milk. I've been on both sides so I know what it feels like to want to carry on but not being able to and also to breastfeed successfully. The last thing I'd do is make anyone feel guilty about their choices as I know we all have different reasons for the choices we make and that's none of my business. :)

A.. course in breastfeeding?

One wonders how we managed in the dark ages. Surely its natural instinct? Is there also a course in having a bath and using the loo :p

Ha classic Fox post :p

Although this is true, I think a lot of woman get quite upset when babies start rejecting the breast and I think's dealing with this where the likes of Jodie can help. The mid-wifes do put a lot of preasure on mothers to breast feed. Probebely too much as it's not for everyone.

My sister just had her first baby not so long ago and she got in a real mess. The stress of not breastfeeding started to take its toll on both mother and baby. It's not like there's a gauge to see how much the baby has taken..

After 8 weeks she went to the bottle (not the alcohol type) and both are much happier. However, a little help wouldn't have gone a miss from some counselling so I say it's a good thing..

Well done Jodie.

I covered all this when I did the thread about me starting the course :p It's all purely voluntary so it's not about making money or anything.
