I'm just ranting cos I'm working and a sad kitty, but, are react YouTube videos some of the dumbest/easiest way to rip off others hardwork? Be that a film, a music video, another YouTubers content?

Obviously there's a market for this but why on earth would I care what some random 20 year old thinks about.... "Luke i am your father" reveal in Empire?

Yes I understand it's not hard to not click things I don't like but somehow the algorithm clocked me as liking them because I miss clicked one.

Anyway I finish work in an hour ....ez........

I invest in alphabet, so as an investor i would remove monetisation from such things as well as much more derivitive content, because there are fantastic things out there, but too much trash, only quality things should be monetized, however, everything can be promoted by the algorithm.

This will increase the quality of videos drastically as people put effort, thus in the future, more users, more engagement, and ultimately more money for alphabet (and by extension, me).

But if you allow too many people to make money posting cat video compilations, and reacts to, then youtube will die almost certainly

I don’t think the algorithm actually works like that. It doesn’t see a single click and you exiting a video quickly as a signal that you want more of this content. If it does then Google needs a better algorithm.

We've got our own Warren Buffett right here lads.

It's ACTUALLY "No... I am your father."

Put some effort in!

Also yes, react videos are cringe. Sometimes cringe can be fun though, especially when it's pseudo-social like this sort of thing. Humans absolutely dig interaction with other humans (who knew), it's why streaming is so (seemingly) insanely popular.

For me , yes and no!

I was watching some Pink Floyd and Rolling Stones gigs on YouTube and the algorithm ended up playing a series by some chap that had reaction videos of him listening to some rock classics for the first time.

(There's loads of these videos about, but this guy I stumbled upon just appeared so genuine, it's almost like a sub genre!)

I have no idea why I found them so entertaining. But I guess it's wholesome seeing people experience the absolute magic of one of the best eras in music for the first time.

But I agree, there are reaction videos that are just too dramatic and acting up to a camera.

Yeah but can these possibly be real? My X key is worn ALL the way down about that.

My favourite video ref this is from ya boi Gus Johnson (kinda legendary guy of "every cat at 3AM"fame).

There must be a market for "man reacts to reaction videos" videos.

Possibly, said man could talk at length about the futility of life, idiocy of strangers and the mind-crushing effects of boredom.

Yeah I'd agree there's definitely a bit of a fad with these videos. Some are more genuine than others! I found some of them entertaining though!

Hello fellow 19 year old. Pewdiepie's content from 2017-2020 says hello.

I'm surprised that they can be monetised, like you say they are just ripping someone else's content.
If you're adding productive commentary then of course that can act as a transformative work, and then there's a case to be made for the free use of the content under those circumstances. Obviously there are edge cases and people who abuse this is mechanic, as well as people who don't respect the transformative nature of other people's work that contains their own.

Maybe in the US you could argue that under fair use but I doubt you'd get very far. Productive commentary would be more of a review format using clips not just playing the whole thing going "OMG!" like many react videos do (not all).
A quick look online shows plenty of them are taken down or demonetised, guess some get away with it.
