I react to something on YouTube.

Maybe in the US you could argue that under fair use but I doubt you'd get very far. Productive commentary would be more of a review format using clips not just playing the whole thing going "OMG!" like many react videos do (not all).
A quick look online shows plenty of them are taken down or demonetised, guess some get away with it.
Fair use, that's the one, not free use like I said. That's something else :o

Yeah it's hardly a "free lunch" but plenty of people do it just to grab views which I'm sure can increase their popularity for other monetised content.

I have noticed that lots of Americans have worked out that there is easy likes and follows to be had by reacting to British popular culture such as our music, comedies, films etc.

There seems to be a segment of British people desperate for American acceptance of our arts. You can see it in the comment sections, people telling them 'react to this, react to that'. Every reaction is of course always highly positive to please the audience who want to be told how cool their culture is. It's so blatant that you have Americans watching things like The Inbetweeners, Peep Show etc and laughing at jokes they blatantly don't even understand, it's all very contrived but I don't blame them as it's guaranteed clicks and followers. Milk the Brits for the dollars !

It's genuinely mad how many people there are doing it and how many views they can get, they will literally just watch British stuff and nothing else because we are seemingly the only people sad enough to crave American acceptance lol

Occasionally you'll come across one who forgets the rules and gives a negative reaction, then they get abused for being a dumb yank in the comment section and quickly learn that you only give positive comments if you want likes and followers.

I love the internet...

but, are react YouTube videos some of the dumbest/easiest way to rip off others hardwork?

There are reaction videos and there are reaction videos. Sure the 'wow' videos are rubbish but you might take a look at some of the back-and-forths between Shadiversity and Scholagladiatoria about HEMA. Or Ashley Neal's reactions to assorted driving videos

The internet is now full of junk, it peaked a long time ago.

Yeah I agree but you get more enjoyment out of it if you at least somewhat embrace it like you would have done if you were new to it in the modern day. There's no point black pilling yourself endlessly, there's lots of fun still to be had my dude. Be the change you want to see. Don't let your memes be dreams. YOLO.

well yeah 2 "experts" disagreeing with each others opinions is fine.
Im talking more about the "first time watching the usual suspects OMG THAT TTTTTWWTWIST!!!" c words.

Depends, reacting to things can be interesting to watch, tribes people react to fish and chips was interesting, Americans react to British candy perhaps less so.

Reaction videos to other videos as per the OP are less interesting in general and do come across as lazy, exceptions are perhaps seeing someone from a different culture viewing something completely new to them or seeing someone with some decent domain knowledge viewing something and not just reacting but critiquing it.

For example here is what I'd consider a "good" reaction video to a video to be - domain experts + not just reacting but providing legit criticism:

Also, Shapiro is a pretty odious character and it would be easy for them to totally dunk on him but they come across as pretty fair.

I'm just ranting cos I'm working and a sad kitty, but, are react YouTube videos some of the dumbest/easiest way to rip off others hardwork? Be that a film, a music video, another YouTubers content?

Obviously there's a market for this but why on earth would I care what some random 20 year old thinks about.... "Luke i am your father" reveal in Empire?

Yes I understand it's not hard to not click things I don't like but somehow the algorithm clocked me as liking them because I miss clicked one.

Anyway I finish work in an hour ....ez........

Counterpoint: I would watch this movie.

Viewing the category as a whole regardless of whether there’s educational value for the viewer delivered by the reactor or not, it’s self-evident there’s some sort of innate desire amongst humans who enjoy a particular thing to watch other people experiencing it for the first time themselves.

Back when the greatest entertainment was the ultimate fight of ultimate destiny and homestar runner.

We saw it begin, we lived it. No other generation will ever be as cool as us.
