As the title really,

How does Thunderbird compare to outlook express ? I have been using firefox for some time and really like it, so I'm thinking of changing to Thunderbird too. Any comments ?

All I can say for Thunderbird is

Been using thunderbird for 3 years, it's miles more reliable than anything else I've tried. I also have my parents using it now, they love it :)

There is a Webmail plugin for Thunderbird. You install the main webmail plugin then the individual plugin for Hotmail, Yahoo etc. There is one for Gmail but I don't bother with that since Gmail now supports POP which is how I get my Gmail in Thunderbird.

There seem to be some intermittent problems with the Hotmail plugin. It does work....some of the time. Search the forums for info on that, I think I might even have contributed to a thread about Hotmail and Thunderbird if that helps to narrow down the search terms.;)

True what MarcLister says. For Yahoo Mail, same thing as GMail but have to accept 'junk' mail from them to activate POP. But, simply tell Thunderbird that its junk & you'll never see it :D

Using it now for 3-years & its been great! Found WebMail say about a year ago & allows me to use Hotmail which is the main e-mail address these days :o

Been using it for ages now (can't remember the last time I opened Outlook Express) and it's done everything I've asked of it, plus I can't remember it ever crashing which is always a bonus.

If I were a don "Outlook Express" would be a swearie and you'd be permabanned.;)

thunderbirds antispam kicks 7 shades out of outlook, also it applys the rules BEFORE the antispam, unlike outlook.

Bledd and I have been messing around with the Webmail/Hotmail extensions. My Hotmail.com email address works fine but my Hotmail.co.uk won't. I get the dreaded 'negative vibes' error message yet Bledd can get both a Hotmail.com and Hotmail.co.uk to work. Neither of us can work out why a .co.uk won't work.

Hmm well I suppose I'll just have to leave it. I suppose I could use my Gmail account for MSN and transfer all my contacts over there. I know I can get my Gmail working in Thunderbird so I might ditch my Hotmail addresses.

Hmm....I never really went back to Mozilla's stuff when Firefox failed miserably on both of my computers.

What I do now is just tile my 4 email accounts on Opera so that I can see them both which is pretty cool, though one standalone program might be an idea.

Thanks Guys,

Overall I guess that is pretty positive, I don't use a hotmail/Gmail account so no issues there.

I'll have to try it for myself.

Thanks Basmic, I have just installed and setup Thunderbird and it looks promising.....I'll give that a try first.
