I REALLY need an online FPS

As thread title... I need an online FPS, seems as though the holidays have just started I was thinking starting on one would be easier (more time to get used to it). I've been looking around at stuff like Battlefield 2, Team Fortress 2 etc. However I still can't make my mind up- i am a bit short on cash so I can't waste money trying different ones out. The game would have to have a large player base, with a mix of players (not all experts). It needs to have stratergy in it, however I don't want it to be too serious.

It also needs to work on my rubbish system:
Celeron D (2.9Ghz)
x1650pro
768mb ram

Thanks for the fast replys, I could get BF2, as it is REALLY cheap at my local game store, however how many people would be on at one time, im not spending money just to wait for ages for enough people to play.
 
still loads of people playing bf2. can always find servers full/nearly full you just join in no need to wait.
 
BF2, TF2, CS and CoD4 are the most popular. All quality games :) BF2 might be the better choice as you can download mods like project reality for more strategic play.

No. Some might disagree though. If you want to pay £10 for some new skins then go for it.

I wouldn't recommend CSS now. I used to play at a reasonably high standard but I jumped on a for a quick blast the other day after not playing for a while and got absolutely pumped. The standard is ridiculously high and its a steep learning curve.

Get TF2, its so much fun. Certainly doesn't take itself too seriously and the strategic element is up there with the best. Don't let the cartoony graphics put you off (I almost did) they fit the game perfectly. Its my game of the year.
 
Yeah they worth it for that price, they have new guns grappling hooks etc YOu need to find malc30 He plays lots of bf2
 
You get new guns and grappling hooks in the far superior, free mods though. Don't give EA money for such tact, please.
 
Well I might buy BF2 today, then the orange box (been looking at it for a while) later this summer - after I buy a new computer. I HATE this computer... always crashes when in the middle of something important ESPECIALLY games.
