Hey guys,

As the title reads I really need some help. I have just built a PC as I wanted to play games and didn't want to spend ridiculous amounts of money on a PC world comp. I built it with a guy who is the head of Ben Sherman I.T and he definitely put everything together properly.

I then took it home and started it up and at first it kept on turning off. It thne carried on and I installed Windoes XP 32bit. I then tried to install my Video Driver with CD but it stopped and a blue screen came up saying STOP: c00021a fatal system error status of oxc0000135.

Now, I know **** all about computers and have no idea what this means but It keeps on happening. It then turns off. When i turn it on again is says 'Start Normally' or 'Start at last working time@ or something like that, but when I select an option it just turns off, but sometimes works and then i am back at my normal Homescreen.

Any help would be absolutely fantastic and you would be REALLY helping me out.
cheers

Strange, did it work fine when your friend put it up together or you havn't tested it back there?

Seems like motherboard or RAM issue but it could be anything, does it BSOD when you leave it idle or in BIOS or just when you try to start up windows ?

Can you go to BIOS and check the CPU and other temperatures and let us know what are they ?

Also try unplugging any external devices including dvdrom, usb modems etc and just use 1 stick of ram and see if that helps.

Hey mate cheers for the reply :)

I only tested it at home and was already not working.

I have no idea what BSOD or BIOS is sorry.

Re temps, I have a CPU fan and two fans in the Case and it is cool inside. I think the temp was meant to be around 73 degrees.

Will do with the RAM.

Hi there and welcome to the forums :D

Sorry to hear about your problems, hopefully we can help you out.

You say that you started it up and it kept turning off, but were then able to install windows. Is the PC able to consistently boot into XP without any issues or does it crash on startup some of the time?

My first suggestion would be to fully turn the PC off (switch off at the wall and PSU) and check that the 24pin and 8 pin power supply connections are attached to the motherboard and the 6 pin PCIe power connector is connected from the PSU to the graphics card.

Then (again with the power off) remove one of the RAM sticks, power on and see how it works now. Later replace the RAM stick, remove the other and test it out again.

CPU temp seems a bit warm, have a look at the CPU heatsink is attached ok.

Especially for phenomII, they hate anything above 50-55c, on 74 they normally wouldn't even boot so if that temp is accurate we probably found the issue. This CPU when not OCed shouldn't really be at more than 30-35c idle even with stock cooler.

Yes precisely this!
The key phrase might well be 'you took it home', so something might have dislodged. In this case either the CPU fan, or the cpu fanlead for power, or worse, and quite possible, the cooler itself has become loose or dislodged.
The shutoffs could be the autoshutdown for overheating kicking in.

Another possibility is a short, this would be another reason for random rebooting, check all the cables, by unpluggign them and replugging them in turn.

I will try that and then inform you on how it works. Thanks a lot mate!!!

I will look at the fan and see if its in. The only thing is that it was off for about 2 hours. I then turn it on and it instantly turns off. I tried about 3 times and then it suddenly worked and I installed Windows. Now it only screws up when I'm trying to install my drivers for my Vid card

I would still check every single wire and lead, and make sure that heatsink is correctly attached. Not just the fan, the entire headsink.

WHen your computer first boots, hold down the DEL key.
This will let you into the BIOS, and the computer will just idle there.
Within BIOS browse to the right using the -> RIGHT ARROW key, until you come to PC HEALTH header, then click ENTER
Within this screen CPU tempterature should be reported.

Let it idle for 5-10 minutes and report back to us what temperature it is reading. If this figure is above 60 degrees, switch off and report sooner.

The CPU is 47 degrees.

Thanks for showing me how to do it

I think your issue is with the CPU cooler, and when you ask the processor to do something intensive, such as install new GFX drivers, it overheats and you have crashing issues.

47 degrees idle seems high to me. I am unsure exactly how a phenom II attached, someone with such a chip might be able to details how you would check its fittings. Does the CPU cooler appear loose in any fashion? (ONLY test with the system shut down as cmdr andi detailed)

Every thing is fixed in place with the CPU. It is held in with clips and they are fastened. The computer is loading up perfectly now!!.
Only problem now is that when I try to install the driver I am met with a blue screen saying STOP c00021a fatal system error status of oxc0000135.

That is the only problem now
