My question is do you think it's the correct timing to upgrade. I mean Intel won't be releasing their new CPUs anytime soon. Same with Nvidia?!
The performance difference between you current system and an IB system say would be enormous. The newer Haswell chips are primarily a GPU performance upgrade. So buying either the IB now or Haswell later will have roughly the same performance leap from a Q6600 give or take 5%-15% but in real world performance i doubt you'll notice any difference between the two.
So in answer to your question "do i buy now or wait", if you can wait, then by the Haswell but if you can't then buying an IB system won't disappoint. Sure you won't have the latest tech, but you'll have a system still perform well and will last years anyway. I've always gone on the basis of buying what's right today not necessarily what round the corner.
Same can be said for graphics cards. Most of todays mid-to-high end cards are more than capable of playing most games at 1920 with full AA/AF smoothly anyway. If you play games higher than 1920, then newer forthcoming cards maybe more an attractive proposition.
I'm talking practically by the way
