Hi,

I am not a bit about computers and built my first one in January that has been running fine, apart from Bf2 which i have had many little problems with such as know it refuses to work with 4 x 1 GB ram, this could be due to that i installed it when i only had 2 x 1Gb?

Anyway i have an E7400 with Biostar P45 and 4 x 1gb of OCZ Platinum Revision 2 XTC 2GB 6400 along with tuniq tower.

I really want to overclock my CPU to a high level around 3.4 mark i hear is reasonable but just dont know where to start i have read the Stickies at top but still confused.

If someone could give step to step help would be fantastic?

http://www.ocztechnologyforum.com/fo...ad.php?t=52288 here are some of my bios (these are old just more so you can say go on this tab and enter this into here etc) My ram volts are currently at 2.094 and NB at 1.34 and FSB is 1.41

Thanks

Thanks for the link but there is nothing there that is showing me how to start of the overclock that more what i dont understand like in the bios set up what bits am i changing

To start off to have to disable the speed step then what needs changing?

Thanks

basicly increase that CPU frequency setting by 10mhz, save, reboot and see if it'll load and repeat until it fails to load. once it fail you'll have to back it off a bit and do a stress test.

there is a lot more to it than that when you get into voltages ect but its a point for you to start.

good luck

I will tell you what frequencey is after It wont reboot thanks

I have upped it to 306 and just going to run prime 95 (so far not crashes) then i will up it again untill it wont boot.

Getting temps of 46 and 49 afrtering running prime for about 15mins

3.2 GHZ atm

does your board have an auto cmos reset? if it does not sometimes when you go too far and it wont post. your pc wont come back on at all and you need to rest the cmos. its not hard an most board have it now anyway. but its worth looking up how to do it... just incase.

i remeber the first time i did it... **** myself!

oh yeah turn the speed step off too. should make it a bit more stable.

well done so far.

I'm finished work for the day now mate, but i'll check in on you when i get home later.

the link does not work mate. was it something like rounding was.4 expected ...?

if it was you've gone to far. you could try uping your cpu volts a bit to see it that stops it.

It saif fatal error rouding was 0.5, expected less then 4

I ran with just 2 x 1GB of memory (memtest no errors) then ran prime 95 for just over an hour with 2 x 1GB and there was no error temps were 54 c max with fans set a medium and my antec door shut (that probably didn't help). Shall i try another 10Mhz?

4 x 1GB of ram has been causing me a lot of problems i think i am going to sell them and buy 2 x 2GB sometime

I'd look at coretemp to be honest.

4gig of ram will put more stress on your northbridge. so you might need to up the volts on that a little too. thats prob why it fails with 4 not 2 in!!

try another 10mhz and see what happens.

what are you at now? what was the original speed of your cpu?

oh yeah and thats the error i was on about. you wont get much more with out uping volts now i dont think.

oh are you on a stock cooler?

i am at 3423 Mhz and got that error above with 2 X 1 GB but i am gong to leave the 2 GB out as it give me problems in BF2 for some reason and i cant be bothered to reinstall it and that so i will purcahse some 2 x 2GB then sell of my 4 x 1GB of memory for hopefully £20-25.

Its an e7400 @ 2.8

Running tuniq tower

What shall i try now? good i try 10 multiplyer with 340 mhz? How much you reccomend i bump up the volts?

if your on a 9 multi now i dont think it'll post with 10. 3.4mhz is not bad.

up the volts 1 option at a time. not sure what the max is for your chip but you can google it. 1.4v is about the safe max for most chips.

I'd up the volts now and see if you can get it stable. it's worth upping the NB 1 option now just to see if it helps. but i'd guess its the vcore holding you back.

just watch those temps.

jusf found this.

Default max volt for the E7400 .... 1.36200v is the max Intel says is safe for a sustained amount of time

i looked on internet and 1.4/5 people said is the max you should go otherwise CPU will go very quickly lol.

There is no need to up voltage now is there as i am only running 2 x 1GB? The current multiplier is 10.5
