Im looking to ghost a hard drive later today, its something i have never done so looking for a bit of help, What if any are the down sides to ghosting a drive?
I have an old 120GB Western Digital IDE HDD and just bought a new Samsung F1 Spinpoint, The IDE one is rather loud so want to put everything onto my new one but sont want to go to the hastle of instaling windows and stuff onto it as im happy the way it is. a mate suggested ghosting it. as i say ive never played around with HDD's as in my only experience with them it usualy goes bad.
If you're going from an IDE to a SATA drive then you'll need to make sure that the SATA controller is enabled in the BIOS and that you either have the appropriate drivers loaded onto the IDE drive before you start or you set the SATA controller to IDE/legacy mode in the system BIOS.
Cheers, You will probably hear me tomorow saying i have formated the thing and put it on the new one. but i dont have crazy amounts of stuff i will lose if i do
