I Support the lorry drivers thread

Or... the government could stop wasting "billions per week" on pointless social experiments, foreign aid, massive IT projects, pointless monuments (like the millennium dome, (granted, it's old now)), paying people the equivalent of £30,000 per year to stay at home and contribute nothing, wasting taxpayers' money on new kitchens/stupid food bills etc etc.

Amen. They increased taxes to fund other useless spending, using motorists as a source of income rather than "Improving the environment".

I would happily pay slightly more tax if I knew that at least 50% was actually spent on my roads and 50% went to sourcing alternative fuels or funding electric cars/monorails.

They have my support as well - I just hope this time they don't get talked into backing down until the government does something.

Exactly how I feel.

Something is gonna have to be done about the high fuel costs. If they stay this high or go higher, our economy is going to be crippled. Real inflation is already running riot.

I wouldn't happily pay more, but I agree it is out of order that we pay so much, yet I have to dodge potholes on my way to work - the roads are a disgrace yet we pay through the nose for them.

Duty should be dropped entirely.
Unfortunately labour have taxed and spent themselves into a corner.
They are taking record amounts of tax, borrowing record amounts of money from elsewhere, and spending record amounts of money on completely pointless quangos, wasting billions on the NHS, the same again on schools, Billions on benefits, billions on two wars, hundreds of millions on international aid and writing off debts.
They have no room to move, they are at the point where they have no slack in either direction, without a major correction in how they take tax, what they spend tax payers money on, things will only keep getting worse.

Labour have no chance of winning the next election. After everything they have done they cant believe they are honestly going to stay in power unless they rig the next election. I think they will look like a French fighter pilot.....Shot down in flames. :D

They should blockade every road, bring the country to a standstill. That is the only way the the muppets in government will take any notice. Oh yeah, I forgot, they made peaceful protest that disrupts transport an offence under the terrorism laws. Fascist *******!
General strike IMO.

EDIT: On a side issue, those mentally ill people here that supported Labour in the last election, how do you feel now?

you would think most of them would get bunkered fuel anyway and a lot of the big companies are getting their own fueling stations. I know they have to do something about this but how many of them lorry drivers are paying for the fuel the use? lol

I would pay more purely because it will make things cheaper and more "Environmentally friendly" in the long run, which will shut up all these tree huggers.

My area is rife with Potholes and has been like this for several years. I damaged my front left tire on two occasions with potholes and that has therefore cost me about £200+ in tires. I nearly hit a tree today aswell, so I don't know how they can justify an increase in tax without showing us proper results.

For the record I don't even live in the wild, I live just outside Oxford and commute to Bicester (as do hundreds of people each day...busy roads and lots of school traffic).

Good on them for fighting for what they believe, but this is a much wider issue than just government tax. A lot of people are taking a very narrow view of the situation and the fact light crude has gone up by 600% in the last 10 years.

You have a good chance of claiming expenses like that off the council if you write and sent photos. My ex did and successfully got a new tyre out of it.

I completely agree with what your saying I just wish the government would see that taxing the hell out of fuel on top of the fuel prices isnt going to help the people who are paying tax. As others have said its such a shame that they have had to go to these lengths to be heard but fair play; to a degree I hope it causes choas as a result regardless of if I'm stuck in traffic as result I will be happy to see that people are taking a stand against a government that does nothing but take and then blame everyone else for there problems. I wish that we told the government what to do not the government tell us or do what ever they like. Governments that are elected by the people should do as the people say not support the rich or help the lazy jobless bums that do nothing. I hate the fact that working class and mid class people are the worst off people it would seem in this coutry. In a ideal world people should be able to take a vote on all issues not blind sighted MPs that have no real idea.

Supported. The amount of tax on fuel still hugely outweighs the cost of the fuel itself, even with the massive rise in prices.

This government will bleed everyone dry unless we stand up to them.

Also supported, it's getting ridiculous again. My public transport alternative for getting the 6 miles to work would be a bus at about £4 return, it's not like that's viable to discourage me from using my car!

Thing is, we have all been thinking it and discussing it for months/years, nobody has said anything until now...the time when Gordon Brown is under fire for many Labour problems, people speak up and blockade etc. It's a shame that it has to come to this for the government to actually listen to our needs and do something about it.
