It only takes one female anopheles that's infected to bite you once to get malaria, I've seen it happen.

Mozzie coil or net is the only way to be safe I'm afraid....

Or you could try one of those electrical blue light devices, you know the one that attracts bugs and when the bug touches the conductor, zap...
