OK, So I think I'm mental.

I want to buy an old car.

I know next to nothing about old cars, but would be willing to learn.

I like the looks of old muscle cars, and the Ford Falcon, Jenson Interceptor and old things like those.

I would say I don't want to spend tons and tons, but I know I might have to part with a nice chunk to get something tidy. P.S. I am 21 so think about insurance with 0NCB...

Can you help?

With a list like that, you're looking at £10k+ easily. Just what kind of budget, space, parking and time are you working with?

Insurance will be challenging but probably doable (and no doubt quite costly) via specialists like Peter James, or one of the dedicated classic brokers.

Before we even entertain this thread, we need to know your budget. Your real budget, capital you have to purchase the car itself. Then we'll talk.

I love old classics, the noise, the road presence, the everything, there is nothing more satisfying than a beasty V8 noise and old style.

Money wise, not too much, and it won't be everyday as I am enjoying walking back and forth to work, if I drive all the time, I will get bored, and with my job if I get bored, my job will be boring.

I would love something old and square (Mustang/Camaro/Falcon) style and V8 noise wise, doesn't have to be a main-line classic, something a bit different would also be nice.

Let us say £5K?

You won't get anything like that on £5k. You might be able to find one of the 'unloved' generations of Buicks/Pontiacs/Plymouths of the 60s/70s, but keeping it running or just in good nick will quickly become annoying in that price range - unless you're willing to live with it like that.

You're going to want to, realistically, be looking at British tin like Rover P5Bs/P6s, SD1s, Triumph 2000/2500s, stuff that there's plenty of next-day support for.

C4 Corvettes fall into that price range, however, as do the similar 80s Camaros and Pontiacs, but they're probably not quite as period as you'd like.

Edit: Something like a mid/late 70s/early 80s Firebird or Camaro may fall in that price range too but you'll have to really work to find a good one at that price.

My job is driving, and if I drive ALL the time, I will end up bored of driving. That is the reason I want a car for fun, I don't need one, don't have one, would just love an old noisy machine for fun :D

I like all this stuff too, as I've no doubt said many times before, but you can't really do it 'properly' on your budget, old cars like this are as much of a pain in the rear as they are fun. If you spend lots of money on one that's really been looked after then you can get a great car, but buying tired old things that are a bit of a project is really only something you should do if it's the 'project' that you really want ...imho. The Rovers could possibly work out at your budget, most of the American stuff is going to cost more if you want a nice one. And whatever the case you better be handy with spanners and enjoy tinkering with cars, if you don't ...then this is not the right move for you.

Lol ...got to be said eh ...actually I saw a rather decent looking MK3 Mondeo in the pub car park the other day, metallic blue 56 plate 2500 quid bar a fiver (well it looked fine from the outside, no idea what the inside looked like or how it drove) ...whatever the case that's a 56 plate saloon car, with no shortage of toys for 2500 pounds! ...hard to argue with that, considering my car is a, 07 and was much, much more expensive than that.

Think I should save another £5K+ and get something my heart goes towards, something like what I want...

If you want to go down the American muscle car route then that would probably be best. However for your 5k budget you could easy get a nice Triumph Spitfire or MG midget. Or if you wanted something a bit bigger a Triumph GT6 or MGB. All of these cars are excellent "starter classics" as the majority of parts are easy to come across and are not too expensive.

When you say 5k are you talking 5k for the car alone or with insurance prices too? As you say 21 with 0 NCB is going to be something you have to take into account and a car like that is not going to be cheap for you to insure, at all.
