my problem is i have all drivers up to date for the card but it is still acting weird when i drag say a folder over another folder it leaves a trail any idea as to why its doing this and how do i fix it if i can or is it a problem with the card?

okay maybe the stock speed to slow the 4870x2 is a powerful GPU so it may well be bottlenecking....sorry i couldnt help any more

Are you running windows xp? if so this is a trait of the windows manager (the desktop display thing). So like running xp on a pII (done it dont remember why) and everything gets left behind as you drag it across the desktop.

Anyway try using one screen first and some different ati drivers for your card (have you got the latist 9.2's?)

how can i tell if it is bottlenecking?

i cant tell you as i dont know i havent experienced it myself...i just know it happens if the GPU more powerful than CPU or vice versa

plus you should go into you control panel/setting and go to mouse setting then pointer options to double check the box to have the trail things isnt ticked (for XP)

i have just installed the 9.2 still same problem also i have just donr a fresh install of windows its not the chipset either as i thought it was the old mobo i was using so i bought a new one and it is still doing the same thing.

In context to the OP's actual problem, this is golden quote sig material right there.

- What happens when you try to play a game?

Have you reinstalled the chipset drivers for your motherboard? Do you get sound stuttering when the hard drive is in activity - do you loose any USB connections randomly?

Or is it simply some dragging accross the screen?

just the dragging i have unplugged some of my fans and now it seems to be working ok but i will wait and see if it keeps working i will buy a new psu
