I THINK i have made a decision but.....

if your keeping your mobo, just stick the 6 core cpu in it and be done with it for a few years. if your going to replace the motherboard and cpu and the system is to be ued for gaming, youd be daft to stick to amd.

hex core is a simple upgrade and wont need os reinstall or any hastle like that. its plug and play.

His only problem with a hex, is getting a black edition hex such as the 1090T would be a fair bit more costly than a Phenom II 955.

Best bet for a black edition Thuban, is going the Zosma route, it's much more cost effective, and worst case scenario you have a pretty good clocking X4.

A Phenom II 955 @ 3.8GHZ with a CPU NB @ 2.8GHZ is still pretty good.

you've already spent £400+(they were the 2gb versions not 1gb right?), might as well spend the extra £300 or so and do that investment justice ;)

cpu http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-360-IN&groupid=701&catid=6&subcat=1275 if you kep an eye out ocuk will more than likely knock £10 or so off again soon

mb http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-368-GI&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=1990 there are motherboards that are £70-£80 but as you have xfire better to avoide them

cooler http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-001-GD&groupid=701&catid=57&subcat= good for 4.5/4.6ghz.

what is your current psu?
