I have had a spare Dell as a backup PC but it was dead slow and stop so 3 weeks ago I got all bit's and built a new backup PC -
Asus AM1M
AMD AM1 5150
4gig memory
I had HDD with W7 on and also DVD recorder.
Put it all together and it worked fine - Only problem I had was noise - So Today my new SSD arrived.
Got it fitted and popped in W7 disc and away it went - When it finished - no internet.
From my main PC where BT home hub 4 is I am ethernet cable to Bt home plug - in bedroom is another with ethernet cable to new PC - I ran a temp cable from hub to PC and still no internet -
I loaded driver for Lan on board from motherboard disc - still no luck - Unplugged new SSD and reconnected old HDD and sure enough internet connection - So I know it is to do with SSD - new W7 install. - Never had this with the other HDD.
Everytime I tried to set up new connection it asked me for my name and password that my ISP (BT) gave me -- I put in my name and every password I could think of - I put in my email address with every password - I put in router address and password - Home hub name and password - and still no internet - So 5 hrs later I am asking for advise.
Going by past experience this is going to be stupid easy but at moment I haven't quite dropped that far (stupid that is)- At moment it's big glass's of wine - soon to become brandy if I can't sort this out.
Network and internet have never been my favourite pass time - It confuses me.
So any pointer in the right direction would be helpful - failing that recommendations of a good whisky.
I am wound up like a top as I know when I find out how to do it I will kick myself from here to kingdom come.
