I think I need to upgrade...

Hey so yeah connecting the motherboard to the psu atm.

I connected the 24 pin but now I see an 8 pin on the motherboard but all I have from the PSU is a 4 pin and a 6 pin. What should I do?

I'm not connecting a graphics card btw.

Thanks!

You should have 2 x 4 pin connectors that can be locked together using little plastic clips on the connector plugs to perform as an 8 pin.

Make sure you lock it together the right way though, it can only be done one way so you should be alright.

Sure go ahead, if you have your digi cam handy.

Both of my Enermax psu's have 2 x 4 pin connectors, I think the mini atx FSP one in my media centre does too.

Edit: I just looked up that PC Power & Cooling psu (assuming that is the one you bought) it does indeed only have a 4 pin cpu power connector, the 6 pin is for a graphics card. You 'should' be able to run just using the 4 pin plugged into the 8 pin socket, making sure that it is plugged into pins 1-4 not 5-8 ...your motherboard should have something in the manual about this, for compitability with old psu's.

I am staggered that, that new power supply does not feature an 8 pin cpu power connector and a 6+2 and or 8 pin vga power connector though.

Yes, PC Power & Cooling Silencer 420W. Looking now, the 4 pin will fit at the bottom with the clip at the "clip side" and it will fit at the top with the clip facing the outside of the case.

The manual suggests point 1 being at top left, point 4 being bottom left, point 5 top right, point 8 at bottom right - if you get me?

EDIT: Also I went for the Gigabyte GA-MA785GT-UD3H AMD 785G (Socket AM3)
