Fair comment. To expand, I meant when possible better to VPN in and then access services. Rather than open everything up via port forwards.

I don't have an xbox, but can't think of a good reason to open up ports to one..

Agreed. I can’t think of a valid reason to have an inbound port forward to an Xbox.

I have many port forwards open to the internet, but 95% of them are different ports to the same reverse proxy for different services. Not all ports that are open are open to everywhere either, a lot of ports have a single allowed external source IP.

As my VPN is Unifi Teleport, I don’t actually have a port forward for that!
