Just a day after an upgrade.
Do HDDs sometimes give off a beautiful smell sometimes before they die? I went onto Battlefield 2 and got a BSOD then upon a reset it BSODed on the windows welcome screen and gave a lovely burning smell, then it started saying 'Please insert compatible boot media or a boot disk'. The dive is showing up on the RAID setup screen, shoiwing the drive sizes etc but it refuses to boot to it.
The drives a 80GB Maxtor SATA Diamondmax drive which ive had almost a year now. Im sitting on Knoppix now without an HDD and everything seems fine.
Specs:
3200 Venice
Asrock Dual SATA2 Board
1GB GeIL Value
AGP 6800
Jeantech 450W PSU
Ill try a reformat later tonight to make sure its dead, but im confident it is.
Whats the best drive for about 50 quid? (cant find the pound sign on a USA setup). Is their a big difference between SATA and IDE? IDE is soo much simpler, and the drives seem a lot more solid. Ive got a 1.2GB drive thats 10 years old that still works.
