As title, been having problems getting my rig to POST recently, looking up the error codes points the blame at the attached drives.

Having swapped things around, I can no longer POST with my Raptor 150GB. It just hangs the system at boot. I have a 36GB Raptor that POSTs with no issues at all.

It was in a Silentmaxx enclosure, having removed it i've seen the sticker "do not obstruct air holes" so now I feel like a right plank.

I wish I could run disgnostics through the damn thing but I can't get into Windows with it attached.

S.M.A.R.T claims it's working fine though.

I don't have another PC here that I can test it in, so before I take it round to a mates house, anyone got any ideas?

Are you saying that you can't run a Raptor 150 in a Silentmaxx enclosure, cos the enclosure covers some "air holes"?

I've got a Raptor 150 and was thinking of getting a Silentmaxx enclosure to quieten it down a bit.

Would be interested to know if you think that maybe the Raptor150 and Silentmaxx are incompatible.

Also, how did you find the Silentmaxx for reducing noise?

No that's okay, just that there's a big sticker on the raptor saying *DO NOT COVER ANY DRIVE HOLES*.

The Silentmaxx only leaves the ports uncovered, so yes it's obstructing the air holes.

I can't really think what else it could be, it worked fine for a fair few days before playing up.

The SilentMaxx does help with noise though, reduced it a fair bit, but mine will be going on MM, i'm not taking the chance in the future.
 
All of the Raptors run hot so they need good airflow over them to keep them cool. You could try something like the Vantec Vortex hdd coolers. They encase the hdd but they have a cross flow fan mounted at the front with three speed settings, off/low/high. On high it whines quite a bit but on low they are silent. They are filtered too. The hard drive sits in rubber mountings to isolate it so that eliminates most of the noise too. They also have a temp sensor and an led temp display. I have two for my drives (not Raptors) and they work nicely. Gets them up into the 5.25" bays as well so the cables are shorter. Should be ok with Raptors.
 
I RMA my 150GB raptor two weeks ago for problems with boot up....It would shut it self down about half way through XP boot up and then come back to life a few minutes later (i.e 2 to 5mins later must times..... )

(i put up with it doing this for about a year before i RMA it :eek: )

UPS tryed to deliver my RMA replacement yesterday but i was out...so i should be able pick it up from my local UPS office this monday..

I'll be selling mine soon on the MM. Not going to chance it again, plus there isn't *really* room in my case for it.

It was more of an "experiment" which didn't work. :)
