New sticky about competitors went up today I noticed, making any mention of other retailers against the rules. I think this is fair enough of OcUK, most if not all of us can easily google for prices etc, so no real need for any mentions/hints in here.

There has been an increasing amount of posts containing competitors recently and a lot of helpful RTMs to help us remove them.

For the record, Overclockers sell games for consoles and PCs so linking or mentioning competitors is against the forum rules, as outlined in the FAQ

A list of the games sold by OcUK can be seen here - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/produc...p?groupid=1720

From now on, any links to competitors will be deleted and a suspension will be given. Any mention of competitors will be deleted and repeat offenders will receive suspensions.

If you see a competitor link or mention then please RTM it.

Saw it earlier, my personal opinion is, whenever they try to enforce this, it just leads to questions about which shops are allowed, and which aren't. Sadly this is a question that never gets answered, definitively (which to an extent I can understand).

I am sure there was a sticky about this about 6 months ago, which disappeared a couple of months back, not sure why though?

Just ban mentioning all other shops in this sub-forum, simple. Which seems pretty much what they're after.

I agree, there still remains a bit of a gray area in terms of which shops we are permitted to talk about and which ones we aren't. It would be much simpler if we just had a list, surely it isn't that hard to say you can talk about *these* shops, but you can't talk about *those* shops. The understanding I had was that you could discuss another store if computers/hardware wasn't their primary product. Amazon's primary business is books and music (arguably) are we allowed to discuss Amazon in relation to cheap consoles and games? Are we allowed to discuss deals at supermarkets seeing as their primary business isn't to do with computers?

If they stated that in the sticky (i.e. no mention of any shops/sites selling video games or consoles) then it would be nice and easy. Sadly the wording is always ambiguous (imo).

Anyway, their house, their rules, people have been warned etc.

I think it's fairly clear cut guys - OcUK sells games. Any mention of places that sell games is a competitor. Is that difficult?

No, not at all. It's just we've been told conflicting things in the past which is where the confusion comes from, I'm sure you can understand that.

This is the way I understood it (unless they've changed their definition of competitor again)

edit: And apparently they have :(

Looks like absolutely no naming of anywhere that sells any products that OcUK sells. I guess that the best way is to just never name where you get your cheap games/consoles/deals from as it will upset the upper echelon. Not that anybody here would buy a console from OcUK considering the ridiculous prices last time I checked!

EDIT: Beaten by 60 seconds!

OK fair enough but just so I am 100% clear.

Talking about say buying a game from Tescos isn't allowed.

However talking about buying cheap beer (anything other than tech basically) from Tescos is OK correct?

Seems simple enough though. At least we'd know where we stood, I fail to see why it's always such an issue for people.

Well it was an issue when they tried to do a sort of grey area "some are competitors, some aren't" which led to the mods being as confused as us I would have thought. This is much better.

So I guess that means that any mention of "Steam" or "D2D" in relation to purchasing games on the PC forum is prohibited. As I can still see fresh posts on these threads over on the PC section.

But then there was that whole thing about if you wanted to sell copies of a 4 pack sell them in the members market.

So this isn't clear.

lulz we had this years ago mass banning for hinting, they we all stopped hinting the ocuk said it was ok now its not.

Ocuk sells game and consoles and a extortionate price, why on earth they don't open their eyes and see how many people want and talk about games, why don't they sell them at a price they can, I would gladly buy games at a competitive price but its RRP + Vat + postage.

3 Xbox 360 games for sale. THREE

lol no because ocuk need the pc geeks hardware cash so banning that would drive away custom

The steam argument should go in the PC games forum, but imo Steam (from my limited knowledge) sell digital copies of games (and nothing else afaik). OcUK don't sell digital copies so are not technically competing.

This is misleading. The 250GB slim and 4GB 360's are below RRP and the 3 games they sell for 360 are below RRP, VAT price is clearly shown and you get Free postage as a valued forum member.

Never bite the hand that feeds you.
