I thought the next-gen Gran Turismo for PS3?

No doubt, MS got away with it with seling burnout on xbox at full price

True, and it's quite telling that one of the most popular games on the 360 is an HD clone of an Xbox1/PS2 game, even after the 360 has been out nearly a year :)

GT4 is good, maybe a touch of understeer - but i think this is more realistic and forces the driver to brake more than previously increasing the level of simulation

Real life cars don't understeer anything like as much as the cars in GT4 do. Every car understeers like hell, even the powerful RWD cars. Even with all the driving aids turned on in GT3, it isn't like that.

They should concentrate on the proper game and skip this filler crap. :o

Agreed, I think they have quite a cheek actually

Lol, not even sure where to start on this.

First, most popular after a year?

It hasn't been in the top 10 played games for quite a while. Here's the latest top 10... http://www.majornelson.com/archive/2006/08/26/Top-Xbox-Live-Games-for-week-of-8_2F00_21.aspx

Second, HD clone?

Extra Crash events, new XBox Live! features, reworked track, crash and explosion graphics. Also the XBox version of Burnout: Revenge was released 13th Sep. 2005 (http://reviews.teamxbox.com/xbox/982/Burnout-Revenge/p1/) just before the 360 launch so it's no surprise a new version was worked and released at virtually the same time for full price.
When was GT4 released? March 9th 2005 (http://uk.ps2.ign.com/articles/584/584439p1.html) It's a different argument. It's over 18 months old, it should be cheap. As it stands other than a HD improvement which MS offer for all their backwards compatible titles (for free) there's nothing new on the table afaik.

I said "one of" the most popular actually ;) It might not be in that top ten list you linked to, but it seems that every time someone on this forum asks what 360 games to get, or what 360 games are the best, Burnout is mentioned :)

The differences are all minor and subtle FWICS. It is essentially a last-gen port. Which is what GT 'HD' is gonna be. Release last-gen ports if you must (games publishers), but don't charge full price for them please :)

im gutted that the new GT wont be "new" though, im already running GT4 in 1080i mode as it is, i want something newer and better!

Are you joking? I took a corner of nurburghring which I KNOW can be taken at 60 in a fiat punto, however I took it in a proper racing car (A castrol of some sort  ) and ran wide at 45. That isn't realistic, that's just poor.

To be honest (I am not trying to troll the thread) I've never understood why this was considered better than TOCA, as that now drives imo more realistically than GT4, the cars actually crash, and it has better tracks :)

Don't get me wrong though, I really liked GT2 and GT3 was ok until it broke :( Gota love that Escudo on a rally track :D

Its simple, the developers of the GT series have lost the plot since the 3rd installment.

GT4 was ok but pretty boring with all those crap endurance races and OMG who the .... tested the AI, damn right terrible for a challenge. They said they improved it, they said it would have online, they said the PSP version would be out shortly after its release, getting the picture?

Now with PS3 youll get an eye candy PC quality version with a limited amount of gameplay and dont be fooled for thinking it will actually meet release date of the console. Id be even surprised if they finally get it working online.

Not being a console fanboy but really Forza 2 could be by far the best console racer available for a long time.

(btw GT4 in 1080i offers only a slightly higher resolution mode its not running @ 1920x1080) Sony just used it for obvious purposes but did not state it was really only enchanced defination, besides the jaggies are still very very aparent.

I used to play GT4 online, if everyone has good pings you can play in lan mode over the internet. Its a bit fiddly, not offically supported but totally possible :)

If the mighty sony cant improve on some freeware network utility I will be slightly surprised/disappointed

its pretty simple really , sony smelly!

Nice well balanced well thought out post there

the GT series tends to have stop gaps between games though remember the Tokyo motorshow version or sommit? oh was it GT3 concept and GT4 prologue with its wrong images in the rear view lol
Cos GT takes so long to develop people moan so they release these fillers to keep people amused

hmm re the understeer issue - have you tried totaslly removing ALL driver aids? all they do is slow u down midcorner and dont really "aid" you in anyway apart from increasing traction (i always leave TC on "1" setting, as powerful FWD cars are too much of a handful with zero TC) play with buttons not sticks, and although i CAN balance the throttle mid corners etc, it makes it difficult to hit it exactly right every time u have to accel out of a corner.

you say you can take the corner at 60 mph in RL in a punto...and u cant at 45mph in a race car? either your punto is the greatest thing to hit the ring, or u cant get the line/power right in the game (yes pressing the throttle mid corner definately increases understeer and pushes you further wide in the corner if your too heavy handed/too early.

with RWD i can definately induce oversteer, although it can be difficult to catch sometimes without tramlining straight into a barrier on the way out.

The demo of Gran Turismo HD at E3 was actually run on a PC and not PS3 spec hardware according to some news sites.

Plus yes, its just GT4 with added bells and whistles but still at astronomical price no doubt.

I do think it's a bit of a silly thing to do really, as so many people are going to be expecting GT5 to be this amazing next generation super game, and GT HD will entertain those masses that buy their games for just the graphics, as that's all it'll be, GT4 with sharper edges really. If Sony make sure they market it properly, as just a port / minor beefing up, and put a decent price on it, it should do very well, as there are so many GT fans out there, but stick a £40-£50 price tag on it, and you'll get some rather annoyed people, unless there are a significant amount of changes.

I think the fact they've called GT-HD and not GT4-HD (ommiting the 4) will sell it to a lot of people thinking it to be a new game.

I remember reading its not the FULL GT4 experience.
Expect something almost like Prolouge but giving you a taste of GT4 in HD.

Forza 2 for me, besides im not giving Sony the money their asking for a PS3.
They really have turned into "mr nasty corporation"

Good point.

Source?

Gotta be said that Sony do love to milk the GT franchise for all that it's worth... witness the GT releases in-between GT3 and GT4 which by all accounts were lacking in content for their price.

I think they actually said so at the conference, however have they said GT HD is the full game either?

Besides do you really believe that PD could have it ready in time anywhere near release date if it was GT4 complete...
They were 2 years late in the past and how late are they with the PSP version now?

Go ahead and doubt me... :p

I dont doubt you exactly but my impression is this is going to be a full version. They are bringing in things like motorbikes, etc Maybe superficial in a way but enough to call it a complete new game imo.

If sony has any sense the game will be out before xmas

Who would buy it though - would people who played through GT4 on the PS2 really wanna do it all again, except at a higher resolution? How incredibly boring

Rather you than me :D I enjoyed GT4 (despite certain issues) but I couldn't do it again...

Incidentally is the NTSC version noticeably better then? Is the 60fps noticeable versus the 50fps of the PAL version? I presume it fills the screen at least, and has no black borders.
