Hey guys.

I own the Sonata II Piano Black Quiet Case. It has a big metal Air Duct thing that is designed to suck air in and cool your components. It is incredibly large though and makes accessing things inside your case impossible really, so I've taken it out and read other people have to.

Because I have, I was wondering it it's worth purchasing a fan that'll suck air in to it the case to keep everything nice and cool.

Only problem is that I'm not really sure what I should be looking to buy and secondly where it should go in my case...

Here is a pic..

Are there fans specially shaped to fit the grill I've put a red square round? If not, I'm not exactly sure where else another case fan could fit.......

Also, will the 450w Antec PSU be enough to power my spec (check my sig) plus an extra fan?

Would stick away from slot coolers as they dont move as much as normal fans and are generally fairly loud. What are you temps like in comparison between leaving the side panel off and not. Your best off using a higher cfm fan at the rear exhaust. Let us know what your temps are like. Other option may be to put a artic cooler on your graphics card as they move air out unlike a zalman cooler.

Your psu is pushing it with that system but if its rails are good then you should be ok. Id want 530w+ ideally

Could my PSU be the reason for random freezing in games? I know it's not drivers, RAM or the graphics card..

Generally my CPU temp is about 28c and my system is roughly the same. My Graphics card is about 40c.

After an hour or so of gaming my system temp will usually be around 32c, my CPU temp around 35-40 and my Graphics Card at 50-60c...

And what exactly are rails, and what is considered good and bad?

Read the op maybe ;).

Why don't you?

He has removed the CPU duct in the side of the case which allows a 90mm fan to be fitted but it doesnt aid cooling at all as there are no inlets in the side of the case.

I suggested he buy a 120mm fan to fit in the front of the case behind the HD rack as that case only comes with the rear exhaust.

As a guess id say that it is prob that. x1900 need a fair bit of juice. Rails are say 12v rail, 5v rail, 3.3v rail. Its the amount of amps that go down each rail. Better psu's will have more stable rails (voltage doesnt fluctuate much) and have more amps down each rail so can provide more power to the system

Got the same case / psu with relativly same spec (see below) runs fine even with the overclocks, don't think it is your psu - antec's are quite reasonable makes. Also interested in adding an intake fan but how on earth do you get behind the hd slots?!

Take the front panel off and you will see it should be recessed where you fit the fan. You could always look at the manual ;)

Does your DVD-RW stick out from the case slighty? So you can see the metal/whatever of the DVD-RW?

Is it just me, but those temps are not bad. Do not forget to consider ambient temperatures! Or is the problem too much noise from the fans keeping the temps down?

On the Sonata 2 the intake fan fits on the inside of the case, not behind the front panel. The hard drive rack is at 90-degrees with the inside of the case being to the left, the front of the case to the right - on the left hand side it has holes to mount a 120mm to. The PSU is good enough for an X1800, but I'm not sure if its up to the X1900.

If you are going to stick an extra fan in, use the front intake position. That's the most effective airflow path through the case. if you put fans drawing air in through the back you could end up compromising your Hard drive airflow.

To be honest though, i very much doubt you are having cooling issues. the single 120mm exhaust fan in the back is plenty in most situations. I see you have a stock CPU cooler - that might be a better thing to upgrade purely because the stock CPU fans are pretty loud.

:p Thanks for that, should've just kept my mouth shut really!

Edit: Oh, now i remember. I was worried that the clips on the front might snap (one did in transit already) Do i just yank it off?!
