I want to buy my dad a good torch, one that can withstand being knocked about.

Should i just buy a maglite or is there any other brand thats as good or even better ?

Thanks in advanced. Sorry for such a boring thread.

Thanks,

Just ordered myself the really small one and my dad a 2 cell D sized one. Im sure the are both going to be sufficient.

Maglites are nigh on invincible, definately go for an LED one though. DX (not sure if I can link, so I won't) do a huge range of torches, if you're on a budget, grab yourself a Ultrafire C3. Dirt cheap, reasonably well built (the only thing I've had to do was unscrew the emitter assembly when I overtightened the whole thing. Easy).

There ARE better brands than Maglite, Surefire being the legendary one. The range from the well made high end to the OMGOMGOMGOMGMYEYESARRGHHHHHH!.

There's stuff in between. What are you looking for, something baton-sized or something pocket sized?

Seriously. Who would spend that kinda money on a torch!!!

And I am looking at one for the car, about a foot long tops and bright so I can see stuff if I break down (again) :(:)

Dude, if you took out both your headlights, you could just strap that torch to the roof...

I keep a cheap tesco's Maglite multi-LED clone in the glovebox as a backup and a KD or Ultrafire AA torch in the driver's door pocket. Also, get some of those cheap keyring LED torches, they're less than £1 each and they're always useful to have.

Why do Dads knock torches about so much?

Another vote for Fenix

I have two maglite solitaires and they have served me well for years, but after seeing the Fenix L0D I knew they would never be used again. Same goes for the larger models I have.

Maglite on the left and Fenix on the right.

I had some better pictures but that one gives you an idea, both of those use one AAA battery.

The only thing foot long torches are good for is hitting people over the head.
