I have three quite tame ones in the garden. They come and scratch on the windows demanding their daily peanut ration. They don't get particularly alarmed if they come into the garden when one of the family is already there. I would NEVER try to handle them though - their teeth are awfully sharp and powerful. They are well on the way to snatching peanuts out of my (well extended) fingers.
It's a battle of wills keeping them off the bird table though - and they are winning! Between them and the Magpies 8 x Fat Balls (bird food) at 25p each gone in two days last weekend.
I am very fond of Nutkin and his friends Squirelly and Tufty. They are unbearable cute when they sit up on their back legs on the step outside the french window to our living room, front paws tucked under their chins, looking up, little noses twitching, making me feel guilty about not throwing out more food.
