So my mate has recently passed his test and has insured himself on his dad's bike. My forty year old bike has developed a nasty rattle at 3k rpm. I'm going to fix it, but there seems to be some new issue every 200 miles. I want something that's simply going run and be good.

I took a liking to the street triple, it was fun, but honestly I just don't know what's out there and what I might like.

What's the best way of doing finance? Dealer finance seemed absolutely ridiculous at close to 10%apr. A bank loan might be better? Zopa?

Just looking for simple advice really lol

Just book some rest rides and try a few different machines, what about a modern day triumph bonnaville? Or a Kawasaki w650?

And yeah shop around for finance, get the lowest Apr you can

You do get more 0% deals on bikes than cars. I got my Kawasaki ER6-F on 0% and my Yamaha XJ6 Diversion F is currently on 0% finance. Two things you need to make sure of though when you do it. First one is phone up as someone else asking what the cash price would be. If its the same as what's on the finance price you know its actually a 0% finance. not "we've just added all the interest up already and chucked it in".
2nd thing is to test drive it. if your going to be paying for the bike for 2-3 years its best to make sure you love it.

Personally with the 0% deals I've got I have had the money to cover it from the start. But as I could get 0% I did. Builds up my credit rating and I get to earn a whole £2.50 a year interest on the money.....

The Street is a great bike. I think it's something like 180kg so it's extremely light and good fun to ride. The stock exhaust sounds incredible when you get it passed 6 or 7k. Only thing to be careful of is that it is quite small. The seat height is actually quite tall, but the bike in general is small.

Triumph will offer you 0% if you ask nicely enough! :) I got it on mine on 0% (even when the deal wasn't going) and my brother got it on his Speed.

The Street is awesome, a lot of fun and super light.

Go test ride a load, or just buy that one bike you've always liked :)

Bike dealers do 0% APR all the time over the duration of the hire purchase. Triumph did 0% for me + Arrow exhausts, anodised reservoirs and comfort seat on the Speed Triple a few weeks ago. They're constantly doing deals like that. There's a Triumph open day at most dealers tomorrow to celebrate 25 years, so if you're interested in the Street then it might be a good time to go test ride or look.

Test ride test ride test ride then test ride test ride test ride again & No I'm not kidding. Make 100% sure that whatever bike you choose is the bike for you & the only way to do that is Test ride, Once commited to 2/3 years finance it better be the right bike for you.

I saw this post and popped down yesterday for a nosey. Wasn't really in the market but somehow came away with a deposit on a Street Triple....

Lol, I fixed the rattle on my bike so am no longer 'as keen' on a new bike. I've been looking at loads of reviews though. The MT-09 looks pretty cool too.

Both bikes seem to have throttle issues, the MT09 is by wire so is a bit 'on-off', but the striple is apparently very sensitive. I imagine you soon get used to -and master- both pretty quickly though. I need to test ride the mt-09, I've been on the striple and it was fantastic.

Then I need to look at how I can afford a new toy :p

I have no issues with the throttle on the street triple at all. It's definitely nowhere near as twitchy as the highly strung sports bikes.

The MT-09 is hilarious, it's also the single most impractical bike on the planet.

It's far too small, it has no seat padding, it rides like its on girders, it is a death trap on anything other than mirror smooth roads, it won't take a trailing throttle into a corner without lurching and snatching and generally making the bike unstable and its snatchy as **** at all revs in all throttle modes.
I test rode one last year and thought it was awesome (I hadn't ridden in a couple of years) but then I took a test ride on a couple of other bikes and it showed up just how ragged it is.
Apparently the new ones are a bit better, and the larger adventure type one better still, but you would need to ride it back to back to get a true feel for it.

Same here although about 99% of all street triples leave the factory with a loose throttle cable which makes them a nightmare. 5 mins with a spanner to adjust it properly and it's perfect, add the speed triple throttle tube and it's even better.
