I really admire my music more than anything. I have a large collection of mp3 music and I want to get the very best audio clarity from it.

Now, I have a Creative Audigy 2 ZS and I am wondering if these XFi things are really worth the yap you hear about them

How much better if any would a Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Music - OEM be in place of what I have.

Now, I have been listening to my music for many years through the Cambridge Soundworks DTT3500 Digital system. Is there a lot better than this availiable for a reasonable price.

Thanks

Upgrade your speakers too, I had a speaker setup with identical cubes and they sound terrible. In fact I would buy speakers before the soundcard.

Stop using Mp3 and use high bit rate OGG or ideally FLAC, then buy a decent soundcard, not Creative Labs.

as above, for any meaningful sound quality increase some new speakers would be needed and if you are talking hifi quality sould then some seperates would be the way to ( along with soundcard by M-Audio ) but we are talking £100's. Seach the bay for second hand, can be a few bargins. If you still want 5/6/7.1 sound then its more still.

Well I live at home with my parents and until I move into my own place I am not looking for anything that will blow the socks off you. I do personally feel that it might not be the sound card suffering but as you all agree, the speakers. I only have playback through the central speaker as the others are so bad I think blasted out headphones would be better. Its suppose to be a 5.1 system but I have hardly set it up as one and would be quite happy to just have the same high quality audio playing out of just two speakers really

A Hi-Fi doesn't need to be big or especially loud (though they usually can be) but will invariably offer the best quality sound. As suggested, second hand kit and M-Audio card (the 2496 really, £50). Mission speakers are cheap second hand and NAD 3020 amps also tend to go cheap (oldie but goodie ;) ). Whole lot under £180 I reckon including cables.

may I suggest and second hand stereo amp and bookshelf speakers, only stereo sound but would be streets ahead of what you got atm. £200 quid sounds about right

:( got there second
