Currently have a noctua sitting in my dead PC
seeing as i have to change the motherboardi was looking at coolers

what attracted me to it was

neat
practical case access
looks good

seeing as this is a part i will move every X years and every other part i change muchmore (gpu, ram, hdds) the practical side of it not taking up space is a big plus

ive seen mixed reviews on how traditional air coolers are better on performance

so is it that bad?

currently have i7920 but will likely get haswell E if they are up to expectations

I have the h100 they look very tidy and give a lot of room to work in the case to work.
I have had aio water coolers for a while and would only change it for a full water cooling set up when i can afford it that is :D

I'll vouch for them, too. I've used an original H100 for about 2 years, now.
The H100i is pretty much an all-round upgrade.

I'd say they're probably better for system longevity over a heavy air cooler as you don't have a large weight hanging from your CPU bracket. Not to mention making the system less risky to transport if this applies to you.

I got a refurbished one still with warranty.

Substantial bit of kit
Can I ask can you connect more than 2 fans to the unit as it came with 2 Y splitter cables!

I have a H110 in my new 4790K build and its performing well so far ... well enough that my first watercool loop will be GPU only. I will add in the CPU and a second GPU "sometime" - once I feel I've had my money's worth out of the H110 or want to build a different rig and transfer it over.

It is really nice having all that extra room over the CPU and not be slicing your skin off on the fins of a big ugly air cooler. Its also considerably quieter at idle, casual surfing, word processing, spreadsheets, coding etc.

I can't compare for serious gaming load yet as I'm waiting on the graphics card so have only used on-board graphics so far (not installed any games yet) - but I'm less worried about noise at load as I would be using headphones. In my old rig, the graphics card was the noisiest component anyway.

Yes. It will handle 4 fans from the built in controller. That's what the splitters are supplied for.

Some of the *expensive* air coolers perform about the same, or perhaps slightly better, yes...

You'll notice a number of folks (myself included) go nuts when refurbished ones become available, as it means you get about £100's worth of serious cooling power for about £30-40.
Bang-for-buck, that will beat any high-end air cooler.

My H100 has headers for up to 4 fans, so you could run in push-pull if you so desired... and have room in your case, of course!

I'm using an H100 on my CPU and an H55 + Kraken G10 on my 7950 GPU.

Both working great, couldn't honestly be happier. It's both quieter than stock and vastly lower over all temps.

Cost:
H100 - £40 from OCUK MM (new in box)
H55 - £32 from Ebay (Opened but unused)
Kraken G10 - £15 OCUK MM (Used but perfect condition in box)

Running a corsair h105 with corsair sp 120s in push/pull with my 4820k clocked at 4.5ghz idles about 23c games about 35-40c.

You don't run custom loops any more mate?

Got a H60 in my PC in push pull and it does a surprisingly good job at keeping my 3570k @ 4.6ghz. Fans run @ minimum RPM off a fan controller so PC is practically silent

I've been running my H100 for nearly 2 years and it's never skipped a beat. Great temps at 4.5Ghz on the CPU. Gaming is usually 55C and IBT is about 65C. So plenty of room for higher clocks if I want them.

The only thing that concerns me with AIOs is noise. I'm torn between an H90 (140mm fan) and a Noctua D15. Which would be the quietest?

Anything with Noctua fans is almost guaranteed to be nice and hush, IMO... The performance may be a *touch* lower than a couple of the other coolers, but it's far quieter.
The greater AIO noise (below 1000rpm on the fans) is usually from the pump or just the airflow through the rad and any mesh/grilles you may have.

Nah long time no see mate how`s you then,im happy with the corsair tbh.

I'm all good mate, still about but seems the "other place" is a graveyard now and no one posts any more :(

I'm more than happy with my H60 as well, really surprised how good at cooling it is.

Even GPU fans have come a long way and @ 100% are pretty quiet! Though I am comparing my 780 to my old 4870x2 and 5970 so its no surprise I had to watercool to keep some sanity from the noise! :D
