There's some coilovers on Ebay which go for around £160 which seem to be very highly recommended, basically they're just rebranded Jamex and there's a huge thread on MkIV forums about them.

It is indeed. Its well overdue a good clean. I'm awaiting a batch of good weather as it's due a PC session.

In fact, if I took a picture of it today, you'd probably say it's one of the worst you've seen for its age.

You've no doubt had a nose through the rest of the series, but you can see the front bumper and splitter is in rather bad shape, scratched badly on the left, and shotblasted. It's been replaced by one in much better condition.

You'll no doubt get a "look at my agiing PC'd polished anglo-jap crap" thread soon.

Yep, they're fairly firm but not much worse than the OEM sport stuff. Quality is on a par with the cheaper branded coilovers (FK, Jamex etc).

Mine on a set of £230 Ta-Technix coilies, identical to a £450 set of FK's.

Have you driven any Mk4s with the Ebay coilovers? Are they noticably harder than stock? How would they compare to something with firm standard suspension like say a CTR? Finally, is it worth spending the extra for the TA Technix coilovers instead?

Not with the ebay ones but with the TA's. They are a fair bit firmer than std, I'd say they are possibly on a par with something like a CTR but less refined as they've not been developed for one specific version of a car (the same kit fit's all FWD golfs from 1.4 to 2.3 V5). If you can live with the CTR as a daily driver, then they'll be no problem.
Have a good look on ukmkiv's, edition38 or any of the other golf forums as there's a lot of people running them.
I also find the wheel size actually makes more difference to the ride, my car's far smoother on 17's than it's usual 18's.

I'd personally go with the TA's for the extra, purely as the manufacturer will offer support and warranty claims. I know a guy who's n/s front strut blew out after about 6 months. He had to buy a replacement for about £60 to swop the knackered one over, once he sent it back they refunded his payment. Doubt an ebay seller knocking them out so cheaply will entertain that!!
 
that passat looks terriable to me :( Wheels look wrong and that shape passat is just soo ugly compared to the facelift

Rich how bad are linglongs? i am very tempted when current tyres are ~£130 a corner fitted and linglongs are only ~£35 a corner :p

seriously awful, if you have half decent tyres on before I wouldnt fit cheap tyres its worth spending a bit extra if you can.
