I built my machine early this year, but I always intended to upgrade the Motherboard and CPU in the near future. I'm writing this because I'd like some advice from people who know a little more about Motherboard's than I do. I'm using an Asus P8H61-M LE/USB3 board at the moment, but I want to upgrade it to something with a bit more power. The ASUS Sabertooth is a nice board and so is the ASUS Maximus. My next board doesn't have to be ASUS.

My only limits are;

1) ATX only
2) Nice design
3) £200 or below

Gigabyte Z77X-UP4 TH fits the bill.

• Nice design and looks
• Great overclocking potential.
• Under maximum budget.

Basically the UP range of boards use a class leading power stage (IR3550) that is more efficient, powerful and reduces heat.

You need less Vcore to achieve the same overclock, no other board manufacturer has these chips.

Ok. I've noticed these new motherboards are all Ivy Bridge. Can a Sandy Bridge CPU go into an Ivy Bridge board? I want the Asrock Z77 Extreme6, but I've got an Intel Core i3 2100 CPU and it's Sandy Bridge.

If you're just planning to run your CPU at its default speed and not overclock then yes, by all means get the board that looks nicest to you and has the features you will require. Though if at some stage you get the overclocking itch then the board that Stulid recommends is up there with the best of them.

I do plan to overclock in the future, but I don't know the first thing about it at the moment. I don't want to buy an i7, try to overclock it, and destroy it because I didn't know what I was doing. If you have any other suggestions, I'm open to them. I want a good motherboard for all the technical reasons like overclocking, but I also want it to look nice.
