I want to get windows 7 right now! Am fed up with this vista 64 crap. I am really confused about how I actually go about getting it now though. Do I get a beta from Microsoft (and then pay once it is out?) or is it a case of finding it on bay etc? I have never had the urge to check out an os before its retail release before.

Many thanks.

Whats the main issue you are finding with vista currently?

You can download the RC from MS directly. You won't be able to then just pay MS for it, you'll need to buy a copy and completely reformat and reinstall your PC from scratch on October 22nd.

As Hikari Kisugi has asked, what are your issues with Windows Vista?

If you would like to test the release candidate of Windows 7 though, follow this page here and scroll down to the bottom. You will see "Download 32-bit version" and "Download 64-bit version", click on "Select language" on your desired version and click "Go".

Info on the RC:

Downloads will be available until August 20, 2009. After that, you can still install the RC and you can get a product key if you need one.

The RC will expire June 1, 2010, and the bi-hourly shutdowns will begin on March 1, 2010. In both cases, you'll need to rebuild your test PC to replace the OS and reinstall all your programs and data.

Personally I'd source a newer build like 7232 elsewhere and use the RC keys.

Ok thanks for those replies guys. I didn't realise you had to format your pc to get rid of the rc in order to transfer to the retail one once it comes out. That has put me off the idea so I will wait for the full release later in the year.

Tbh I don't have massive issues with vista atm. It is mainly just that I am into arma2 and vista64 is just terrible for that game. Lots of slow down and locks ups. However, at the end of the day it is up to bohemia (makers) to fix their game and they might get it sorted in the next patch.

So it's not an issue with Vista but the game itself? What makes you think W7 will solve it?

It might be worth asking in the W7 thread if anyone with the RC installed can try the game and report back any problems etc.

Meatball, there is a def vista issue with the game. According to lots of people here and in the game's forums who are running it on win7, it works far better. It also works better in xp too apparently.

My apologies I wasn't aware it is a Vista only issue. Is there not a downloadable patch? :).

You'll have to do a clean install anyway, the release version we're getting in Europe won't allow upgrade installs.

If you're interested in getting 7, you'd be better off pre-ordering it now rather than waiting. It's £50 to pre-order it now (most places are sold out but there's at least one that isn't), but it's only a promotion so the price is due to go up next month.

Nah no patch out yet for arma2! It also seems to still have issues with nvidia cards and sli even since the latest drivers. a lot is banking on the imminent patch.

I had no idea we weren't getting a version of win7 that allows for simple upgrading from vista? wtf is that about? So are they getting that in US?

anyone know where i can pre order win 7 for 50 odd notes? Annoying that retailers are increasing prices to 70 presumably just because demand is good...

Any retailers that have Windows 7 up for pre-order will be considered as a competitor and as such, we can't provide you any information on where to pre-order Windows 7 from.

i see. well not really. sure i've been linked from here to other sites that sell pc stuff, not ppl like s~@: etc but HP direct etc. Definately been linked to places like tft central with big glaring banner ads for competitors.

shame really. anyone can google, I can buy from any number of competitors cheaper than overclock is selling vista with the free upgrade. I've had good service from overclockers and fantastic support from the community. I'm sure a helpful push in th4e right direction to buy something overclockers do not sell currently would leave me, and presumably others, much happier and satisfied, thereby maintaining our relationship with overclockers when we spend our hard earned cash?

I like to shop local and stay loyal to local independant firms, especially ones that work so hard to get the good deals overclockers do.

You can't really blame OcUK for not wanting to advertise rival companies, on their own website. Also, I'm pretty sure it would be quite easy to find someone that is selling it.

I know it's a tedious rule but in the time it took you to write that post and the others you could have just gone and looked yourself.

i have found lots of sellers at the £79 price. No point in pre ordering at the release price. Just wondered if any one knew anywhere that had stock (joke) at the £49 price.

some sellers still have proffessional version at sub £90, may have to plump for that, xp mode sounds interesting, just need a 3.11 mode and I'll buy 10 copies!

No you can't blame overclockers for not advertising their competitors, how daft would that be? After all google etc are really hard to use. As I posted I prefer to shop here, even when it's a little more expensive (a little mind!), just finding the redacted culture leaves a little bitter after taste.
