Looks good. I sprayed my Explorer black. About 5 coats. Because I didn't do a clear coat the paint as been coming off and it looks crap.

So I have a bottle of white spirit and I'm trying to clean it up. I wouldn't mind spraying it black again but don't want to mess it up.

It would be yeah, this was only a quick go (no sandpaper or anything). Although saying that the third photo makes it look really bad and it isn't.

It looks pretty much like the original (slightly textured) but black.

That gives a much better idea of the finish.

I'm not sure if it was ps2wizz or cokecan (sorry guys I keep getting your names confused ) but one of them had a 360 sprayed black at the Wales LAN. It looked truly AWESOME.

I'm sure it was in a thread here somewhere...

that'd be me SiD i sprayed my core black and sprayed the ctrl+alt+del logo on it

it needs a couple of coats of clear laquer on it though to seal it, just havnt got round to doin it yet

How easy is it to do? How does the Dye work? Is it easy to do etc..?

HD-DVD was easy, un-clip the side, undo three screws (Torx T8), unclip the top panel. The I taped the drive up. With the Vinyl dye I used you have to give it lots of very light coats but it dries within minutes.

I got mine from Halfords, I think I have seen it on eBay as well.


I would say it's probably the most hard wearing as it dyes the plastic rather than just covering it up.

Do I need any clear coat to go over it or will a good few coats of that stuff be alright?

I haven't used any clearcoat as it's supposed to change the colour of the plastic itself rather than just covering it up


It seems to be holding up ok, been playing GTA4 for the last hour or so with it.

Done the HD-DVD drive... not doing the xbox until the RROD warranty runs out or unless I can get a very cheap replacement case. Not worth losing my warranty for when it's so common for them to die.

Cheers It's quite easy though, by far the most difficult part was getting it back together.
