Alright so I was about to RMA my 7900GT as the fan is broke (the fan only card worked perfect)

I then thought, oh dear, what if I get a new but borked 7900GT?

I'm not sure if I wanna risk my chances of getting a borked one, was thinking of just buying a replacement cooler, any thoughts? (Will also leave me without a PC for a few weeks possibly, it's after 28 days that the fan broken which usually takes a while)

It's your call, but keep in mind that replacing the cooler voids the warranty. To some it might not be worth doing it just to save the hassle of RMAs.

Ah that is true.

At this time though I've got a 120mm fan double-sided sticky taped to the original heatsink, lower temps than the Stock fan gives, might just leave it as it is and RMA when the actual card messes up.

The fan being broken really doesn't affect anything, it's cooler with the one I've got on top of it for example.

get a replacement cooler. but keep the stock cooler in the box of the card. if the card dies put the stock cooler back on and then send it for the rma.

They won't be able to tell it was removed?
