I WON on a self service checkout!

Theft does not require you to forcibly take anything. It requires you to dishonestly appropriate the property of another with the intention of permanently depriving them of it.

And that's not far off a verbatim quote from the theft act.

So how does the check your change before you leave or n orefund work?

same apply to the store?

I suppose that would depend on whether you can prove a clear audit trail showing the path of your missing £10 from your pocket into their till. They have a much better chance of showing the path of their money than you do of yours.

To be honest, I'd guess it's a simple deterrent against scammers. If you honestly felt that you had been shortchanged I'm sure that you could press the matter with customer services, and have them wait until the end of the day to see whether there was any discrepancy on the till in question.

Also, you'd have to show that the store intended to deprive you of your money, if you wanted to press for a case of theft, which you probably can't do. However, in the case of the OP, he has noticed the error and gone on to exploit it. If it had just been a case of him getting too much change and leaving it at that, they'd have little evidence of him having done anything intentionally as they'd struggle to prove that he was even aware of the error, even if he happened to notice later on that he had £10 more than he was expecting in his wallet, or whatever.

Combined with the other thread you do seem to have a remarkably skewed moral compass where lying and stealing are things to brag about rather than be ashamed of.

Too right, I dont mind bending the rules or manipulating the system or rules to get more out and why not.

I'm not robbing an old lady of her pension or holding up a shop with a gun.

I manipulate the situation for my gain if thats emoral then so be it i wont loose no sleep over it I do have morals just they lack slightly when it come to huge corps like Asda, Tesco Etc.

Hey like the Tesco motto says "Every Little Helps"

I have pulled some scams in my time and kept the profits some small like this some a lot bigger.
The only people in my scams and deceitful ways that suffer are big multi million if not billion pound Corps.....

I Dare not tell you of my bigest scam I came accross & exploited to the max in fear of it being censord, banned or worse still grassed up LOL
Lets just say one company lost out big in a system that was clearly at fault.

Op. There is a thing called Karma. One day it will catch you out when you're not aware and will bite you on the derrière.

Fair enough, you are proud to be a thief. Not something I personally aspire to.

Happened to me once, got £40 worth of shopping for free but the machine didn't dispense double change, just it didn't take the money from my card as it froze during the transaction and gave me a receipt :p

The attending staff said I could go with the shopping.

Score!
