I wonder..

It might be an attempt at central rule but there would just be too many people... So you'd need regions with regional leaders underneath the control of the main authority (president? coalition government? huge bot?) anyway in order to attempt some semblance of control...

Guess what, the regions would start to form identities, people would move to the one that most pleases them, and will shun/ignore/pity the people from the most displeasing regions...

People also love finding groups of a nice manageable size in order to identify with.

I'm afraid even if we managed a "one world" that we'd just have countries anyway, under a different heading...

If there was only one nation then there would still be different communities and leaders, each governing their own areas of influence and therfore it'd be pretty much the same as it is now.

We are instinctively tribal.

Considering the greatest research and inventions are borne out of war, the World would be a pretty crap place to live without it.

Now, imagine a World without religion. We wouldn't have had the 'Dark Ages' which would have given us another 600 years of scientific advancement.

If you stop and look at nature (ie interactions between living things), its actually incredibly brutal.
Its a mayhem and death. So compared to the natural world, we live in isolation. Those living in war zones are closest to "real" life. Sad but true.
