Hi, *I know there are probably tons of threads on this already, but i3 is too short to search and I've searched 4 pages*

Anyway, anyone got any idea on release date and whether it is worth holding on for or should I just go for the current core2duo's?

We need to buy 50 desktops for the Christmas break at work and I've got to decide if we hold off and wait or look to buy now.

Any help is great. Thanks

Ah, and I was excited by the title. Thought you were sharing an eta with us.

Last thing I heard was that the 775 processors were going to be renamed as i3, rather than any new ones coming out. It's been a lot of months since I looked into this however, hopefully someone will know specifics.

Wikipedia says January 2010. Some forums are saying as early as mid-November, but this is about as reliable as Wikipedia tbh.

I say gamble and wait it out for a while.

It may well be rubbish; a lot of things were said about Intels naming oddities a while back. Some were true, some less so. I did make a point of not putting it in absolute terms to ensure I didn't mislead you on this, it's just the most recent rumour I paid attention to.

Not sure about the nomenclature (i3 or i5) but Clarkdale is the part you're interested in: dual-core with HT and on-die GPU in a LGA1156 socket.

Arrandale and Clarkdale are the first two Westmere family members you'll meet. Both are technically due out later this year, although we won't see large volumes (by Intel standards) until Q1 2010.
