Hi, what are the standard temperatures like on average with the standard cooler on a 2500k?

Just ran the Windows index rating thing, and when it was assessing the CPU, I got a warning that my core had just hit 85C, I guess that isn't normal surely  don't really wanna get some games on it if the Windows rating does that to it.

I've got the PSU fan, the CPU cooler, the graphics card and one front case fan. Should I think about adding a rear exhaust fan?

Just ran prime 95 and within two mins it was at 90C.

Sits at around 45-50C idle, the room is quite warm at the moment so that will have an effect, but unsure how much of an effect.

How do I check it is seated properly? I made sure it was making full contact and it did not 'click' anymore when seating it.

Pushed the cooler on a bit harder and got a couple more clicks, idle is now 39-47 between the cores, would post a screenshot but don't know how to get print screen on this apple keyboard.

The compound was already on the cooler, so just slotted the cooler on, but it looked about right.

CPU fan is definitely spinning. It's quite hot in this room as the sun's facing on it, but hoping for a bit lower temps than that!

Edit: temps are a now 1-2 degrees lower than posted.

what vcore is the bios showing ?

try dropping the side off the case and see if the temps drop, if they do the front fan might be worth thinking about as well.

Just done, temps are dropping. What about the front fan, increase it's RPM? Think I've got an airflow problem. Cables are tidy-ish leaving plenty of room around the CPU, but there's no air going in or out there. Might fit an exhaust fan to the back or top, what do you think?

Temps are now at 30-40 idle. Much better! What is desirable for an idle temp?

Just put the side panel back on and temps jumped up 5 degrees within two minutes.

Currently running Prime95 on the Small FFTs, and then the maximum heat option (can't remember what it's called).

Temps are stuck at 79, will not go higher. Is this generally ok despite stress test? It's not very often it will be stressed, during the occasional game or so.

Note I'll be installing a exhaust fan as soon as it arrives from OCUK, so temperatures will hopefully be lower, going look into getting a new cpu cooler too.

EDIT: Just read that over 80C is a no no. It'll keep the computer doing non-stressed tasks til that fan is fitted then! I'm not sure where I've gone wrong, pretty sure I can't fit the cooler any tighter now.

Can anyone recommend a good CPU cooler? I have a CM Elite 430 case, so need to fit in it.

Thanks for all your help so far.

What is your budget for a cooler as that affects suggestions.

What I've noticed with my i5 2500k is it does run warm. Though my case is a cm silencio with a very poor front air intake.

I've just installed an Antec Kuhler 920 and load temps don't go above 60 as a rule. I could bring this down further with a better case for airflow.

Your case will take heatsinks up to 163mm in height.

Hi, I'm looking at around £30 budget ideally, if I can get a alright cooler for the price. Yes it does have space for a bottom fan, should be having two fans arriving soon (sorry whoever packed them at ocuk, I changed my mind and decided to order a second fan, so 2 orders, 2 fans!) but I thought there wouldn't be any intake there so it would be pointless, I could give it a go though.

What would be best if I fit a bottom fan, a rear exhaust or top exhaust fan?

What case do you have? And fans?

Just fitted a gelid cooler, and tbh it idles at 29c

Games it hits, 50 tops so far (only been playing world of tanks) :)

Coolermaster 430 Elite, with only one front intake fan, not ideal.

That water-cooling cooler thing looks interesting? Is it quiet and easy to fit?

Thanks for the pics, looks quite good. Just fitted an exhaust fan and I'm now idling at 26-36C. Running prime95 now - looking at around 69-71.

Would you say that's ok given a stock cooler? Was tempted to get the Cooler13 as it's down to £15 now or thereabouts.

prime is still too high for my liking.

nice to see the idle temp drop, what position do you have your case fans in at the moment ?

Got one intake at the front, and one rear exhaust. Got another fan on the way, which I was thinking of mounting at the bottom facing up to redirect flow, or I might just go for the new cooler straight off with arctic silver 5.

Prime was done on the maximum heat setting, can't remember what it is called.

think the cooler might be the best bet, can always add the other fan later to see if it helps with air flow.

when using the system, as mentioned before, just have core temp on in the back ground so it can keep an eye on your temps.

prime will push it as hard as its likely to go, so you should be ok, just watch the temps.

whats the room temp like at the moment ?

Erm I don't know, about 20c? Feels a little bit chilly in a t-shirt but nothing drastic :p

:D

fair chance its the cooler not being able to cope then, the drop in your idle temp seems to be matched in your current temps under testing (initially mentioned 90, now at 70 ish).

The stock cooler is pretty pathetic then isn't it? It's definitely seated properly, felt like the motherboard was gonna give way I was pushing on the pins so hard to 'make sure' :D

i think there fine for everyday "normal" use.

as mentioned give it a try with core temp in the background and see how it goes, without prime running i reckon it will run with decent enough temps, if it doesnt then we have other issues we need to look at.

Got a few things running and it's running at 28-38C. Core 2 is always 10C cooler than the others, but apparently that's normal.
