i5 2500k new build running hot

try the Antec Kuhler Water Cooling Kit : H2O 620 kit. it retails for around £45.

Its an allin one water loop. I fitted one to a friends PC i built him.

With his 2500k OCed to 4.3ghz at idle it sat at 21c and at full stress on prime it never went over 48c.

Great cheap cooler. and a doddle to fit.

What case do you have? And fans?

Just fitted a gelid cooler, and tbh it idles at 29c

Games it hits, 50 tops so far (only been playing world of tanks) :)

Coolermaster 430 Elite, with only one front intake fan, not ideal.

That water-cooling cooler thing looks interesting? Is it quiet and easy to fit?

Nice a quite m8. Stock fan was actualy pretty quiet. And to fit it litrally mounts the fan to the rad. Then mount the rad or the fan to the rear 120mm exaust fan hole. And then just fix the bracket to the motherboared put the block in place twist to lock and then tighten. Litrally a 5 miniute job.

in fact i have some of the build photos from it.

brill little setup it is. I just orderd one for my sons 7750 BE as well as it is the same price as most decent air coolers.

Thanks for the pics, looks quite good. Just fitted an exhaust fan and I'm now idling at 26-36C. Running prime95 now - looking at around 69-71.

Would you say that's ok given a stock cooler? Was tempted to get the Cooler13 as it's down to £15 now or thereabouts.

Looks fine for a stock cooler. I built my friend a 2500K and the 430 case too, had the stock cooler but chucked it away since it was too loud. Got an A50 and it keeps the CPU under 70c when overclocked to 4ghz (I left the volts on auto though since I didn't have enough time left to tweak it).

prime is still too high for my liking.

nice to see the idle temp drop, what position do you have your case fans in at the moment ?

Got one intake at the front, and one rear exhaust. Got another fan on the way, which I was thinking of mounting at the bottom facing up to redirect flow, or I might just go for the new cooler straight off with arctic silver 5.

Prime was done on the maximum heat setting, can't remember what it is called.

think the cooler might be the best bet, can always add the other fan later to see if it helps with air flow.

when using the system, as mentioned before, just have core temp on in the back ground so it can keep an eye on your temps.

prime will push it as hard as its likely to go, so you should be ok, just watch the temps.

whats the room temp like at the moment ?

Erm I don't know, about 20c? Feels a little bit chilly in a t-shirt but nothing drastic :p

:D

fair chance its the cooler not being able to cope then, the drop in your idle temp seems to be matched in your current temps under testing (initially mentioned 90, now at 70 ish).

The stock cooler is pretty pathetic then isn't it? It's definitely seated properly, felt like the motherboard was gonna give way I was pushing on the pins so hard to 'make sure' :D

i think there fine for everyday "normal" use.

as mentioned give it a try with core temp in the background and see how it goes, without prime running i reckon it will run with decent enough temps, if it doesnt then we have other issues we need to look at.

Got a few things running and it's running at 28-38C. Core 2 is always 10C cooler than the others, but apparently that's normal.

yeah, can be usual, mainly due to the uneven meeting of the the chip to the heat sink cover/the cover being uneven on the processor iirc.

good to see its running ok with normal processing, fingers crossed it stays that way :D.
