yesterday, lovely. everything was fine.

last night, decided to move my pc from the floor to a higher surface.

today? won't stable boot into windows. \o/

basically, i use OC genie on a MSI P67A-C45 (not B3 revision, i was a month too early) motherboard to achieve a 4.2ghz overclock.

this has been fine and stable since may.

however, on trying to boot today it would make it through the whole boot but then freeze after 10-15 seconds of use. it's also just failed to make it to the msi splash screen a few times. seems random.

i decided to take the overclock off both the cpu and the RAM but still, it's not working.

i'm currently using the pc in safe mode.

any ideas on what the problem is?

well, i reseated the cooler and it had come a little loose, but it is now in solidly tight and it's still not working :(

no, and i don't have any handy. worth getting some new stuff then i guess? :D would this possibly be the cause? it had crossed my mind. naively never seen the huge importance of thermal paste :D

will reseat the RAM when i crack it open again later. and by crack, i MEAN crack. stop, hammer time.

it might just be a loose connection issue.
You have to check the HSF, Mem and all the connector cables see if they are connected properly.
But if you have removed the HSF and placed it again - better use new TIM

i stripped it all down, and re-seated everything, cleaning off the old and re-applying a nice dab of TIM.

booted into windows and it seemed to last a little longer than before but still crashed after a little while.

the fan at the front of the case was going like mental too, which it hasn't before.

any more ideas? :(

Have you tried a CMOS reset?

If not do this and then go into the BIOS and load optimised defaults and then add any 'specific' changes that you had set up for hdd etc (no overclock) - save and exit.

Test

Go into bios and load default.

Or turn off power un plug and take the battery out of the mobo for a min or two. Then as said set your mobo with out overclocking.

Is the fan on the cpu spinning when turned on

defaults loaded and it's still not working :D it seems to be ok until i try to do something like open up chrome.

the fan is spinning, yeah.

it just freezes and doesn't respond afterward. no mental goings on. just...freezes :(

i have reseated EVERYTHING. i basically rebuilt it earlier :(

Just to clarify?

You've now reset the CMOS and loaded optimised defaults?

Also what exactly is the problem you're getting - does it get into window every time and does the problem appear to be random in nature or do a set of set sequences result in the stability issue. Also how does it present iteslf - does it hang, bsod, restart?.. (if you did reset the BIOS did it have any effect at all?)

Alos, have you ran memtest from a bootable ISO?

i have reset the cmos and loaded optimised defaults, yep.

gets into windows and if i leave it idle it won't hang, but then when i try to open up chrome, or open a folder i have full of programs, it hangs. just hangs. no bsod or restart.

i have not run memtest yet. i don't have a dvd drive that works currently, however :( how can i do this? :(

just a big :(
